Andor Season 2 Sets a Filming Date

Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy recently offered some insight into the production of season 2. Speaking exclusively to Collider, he confirmed that filming for the second season begins on November 21st. As for what season 2 will be about, Gilroy said this in August at the TCA press day, via Deadline:

“We really get to take the formative forging of Cassian Andor in the first 12 episodes and then we get to take that organism that we’ve built up and run it through the next four years in a really exciting narrative fashion,” he added.

Gilroy hinted that the last season of Episode 24 would “walk the audience directly into the first scenes of Rogue One.”

I’m glad production is essentially set in stone at this point, with season 2 ordered before 1 aired. Season 1’s ratings have evidently been sliding throughout its run, with overall lower viewership than other Star Wars shows. It’s a shame; this series is so well-written and intelligent, with characters whose motivations and actions make sense. So much work must have gone into Andor from the ground up, and it hurts to think people liked Obi-Wan or Book of Boba Fett more than this. I would say I can’t wait for season 2, but I’m enjoying this season so much that I’ll just patiently wait. In light of these events, it’s probably for the best that the show was shortened from five seasons to two.
