Today, Warner Bros. released a full trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, the film follows Barbie’s journey into the human world to find happiness. Check out the trailer here:
This is surprisingly funny. The 2001 homage reminds me of Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse’s sense of humor. I’m a lifelong Barbie fan and collector, but I’ve been skeptical of this movie. I haven’t followed it too closely, but it’s hard for me to imagine a sincere, modern-day Barbie movie that doesn’t dunk on the character or the doll’s legacy. But this trailer is pretty funny, and Margot Robbie looks spot-on in the original 1959 swimsuit. I like Noah Baumbach for the most part, but the only movie I’ve seen from Greta Gerwig was Ladybird, which I mostly found boring. I’m cautiously looking forward to Barbie at this point.
