After the first half of Star Wars: Battlefront II’s Han Solo season dropped last month, fans of DICE’s shooter are almost set to dive into the world of the newest film in the franchise, Solo: A Star Wars Story. On June 12, Battlefront II players will receive a free DLC update which includes new skins, a Hero ship, a map, and a game mode. Alden Ehrenreich, the actor portraying a young Han Solo in the recent motion picture, lends his likeness to two Hero skins that come straight from Solo. Likewise, Donald Glover’s likeness will be represented in two skins also from the film. Rounding out the skins will be an alternate appearance for Chewbacca, again using his new movie look. EA confirmed that these new skins will be unlockable via credits.
The Coaxium Mines of Kessel is the new map this season. Players can now battle in the location of one of the most exciting sequences in Solo in many different game modes. EA confirms that the Coaxium Mines map will be playable in Blast, Heroes vs. Villains, Hero Showdown, or the new-to-Battlefront II Extraction mode. From the looks of things, this map should be a ton of fun to visit. Speaking of Extraction, this game mode makes its return from DICE’s previous Star Wars offering, Battlefront 2015. Gameplay is asymmetrical, in which a small team of Rebels attempts to locate and make off with the object while fending off Imperial forces. It’s nothing new, but a fun mode nonetheless. Extraction will be playable only on the new Kessel map, as well as Jabba’s Palace, the map from the first half of the Han Solo season.
Finally, Battlefront II will be updated with Lando Calrissian’s Millenium Falcon, co-piloted by L3-37. This will be the third incarnation of the iconic Corellian freighter, right behind Han and Chewie’s from the Original Trilogy, and Rey and Chewie’s from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. According to EA, Lando’s Falcon will be less resilient to attacks, but much more agile, and will come equipped with unique ship abilities. Coaxium injection boost, made famous by the Kessel run sequence in Solo, can be used for a long burst of speed. L3-37 Co-Pilot will highlight enemies for you and the rest of your team, as well as adding extra damage to any highlighted enemy. Synchronized Fire shoots both primary weapons simultaneously with increased damage for a short bit of time.
Aside from the direct movie-related content, players will see the return of a tweaked Jetpack Cargo game mode, menu updates, a few quality of life improvements, and a whole slew of bug fixes, tweaks, and improvements. EA has also confirmed audiences will be seeing more of what’s next for Star Wars: Battlefront II at their E3 press event this coming Saturday, June 9.
