Chris Hemsworth Talks Star Trek 4 Exit

In a wide-ranging interview with Variety which also revealed he was once up for the role of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Hemsworth reveals that he did not sign on for the fourth Star Trek movie because he didn’t think the script was up to par. I was really excited when he was announced as returning to the franchise; the beloved 2009 reboot was the first time I had seen the actor, so to hear of his return to the series that introduced him to a wider audience was fabulous.

When it was revealed that he and Chris Pine left over a pay dispute, I understood given the circumstances, which is what makes this comment in the interview a bit confounding. I suppose his answer was a bit more diplomatic; after all, certain things should stay at the negotiating table. Yes, the alleged real story may be out there in the press, but it speaks to Hemsworth’s perennial professionalism, something that is in short supply in Hollywood nowadays. My only question now is whether the third Star Trek sequel will ever get made. Here’s hoping all parties can come together and make one more film in this iteration of the Star Trek universe.

Do you take Hemsworth’s comments at face value, or are you just grateful that it seems the current cinematic version of these characters is no more? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to Geeks + Gamers for more Star Trek movie news!
