Disney Villain Series Book of Enchantment in Works for Disney+

Last night, the Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Disney is developing a series focusing on some of their iconic movie villains for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. The series will be called Book of Enchantment, with the stories coming from Serena Valentino’s book series of the same name. Not much else is known about the project at this time.

Personally, I won’t be getting Disney+ because I resent the numerous streaming services that are being announced. I have enjoyed the Netflix/Disney partnership, as Netflix had a lot of Disney movies I didn’t already own available for streaming. But I won’t just keep subscribing to every one of these things that comes out. When Netflix was newer, part of the big deal was that people could ditch cable to save money. However, that ceases to be true when every company comes out with its own streaming service. It’s just like subscribing to channels through Comcast or AT&T again. As for Book of Enchantment itself, I think it could be a good idea. They would need to be really careful with getting the cast and the costumes just right. I also wonder if, eventually, to keep the story going, they might turn it into a crossover like Once Upon a Time. I actually thought the announcement was referring to the Disney Twisted Tales book series at first; I’ve heard of those more so than Valentino’s series. Regardless, time will only tell how well the concept translates to the small screen.
