French Football’s “Malice At The Palace”

During a French football Ligue 1 match between Nice and Marseilles, fans threw objects at the opposing team, sparking an on-field row between fans and the players and coaches.

The fight broke out in the 75th minute when Marseille forward Dimitri Payet picked up a water bottle that was thrown on the field near him and proceeded to hurl it back into the crowd.

Malice at the Palace occurred in 2004 when NBA teams Indiana and Detroit were involved in a brawl. After a fan threw a water bottle at Metta Sandiford-Artest, he charged after the fan, sparking the all-in fight.

A Nice fan then entered the playing arena and kicked out at Marseille’s Payet. He was then rushed back over the barrier, where security was attempting to stop further incursions onto the pitch.

Footage of the fight can be seen in the tweet below.

Marseille and Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli was seen shouting at officials while in the tunnel.

The match has currently been abandoned.

Is this what PSG’s newest recruit, Lionel Messi, can look forward to now that he’s made the switch to the French League?
