We have some new insight into everyone’s favorite archeologists’ next adventure. In recent interviews for his adaptation of The Call of the Wild, Harrison Ford said that they will begin filming the next installment of the Indiana Jones franchise either in the next two months or this summer. He also offered that Indy 5 will see “part of his history resolved” and that he loves the script.
At first blush, this may not seem like a big deal, but after the needless hubbub a couple of weeks ago around the film not being a reboot, a fact that had been confirmed several times over the years, it’s great to have something a bit more concrete, especially coming from the notoriously tight-lipped and seemingly apathetic Ford – apathetic save for Indiana Jones, that is. Thanks to Ford, we finally have confirmation that everyone has found a story on which all major parties agree, with the likes of Jonathan Kasdan, David Koepp, and possibly This is Us creator Dan Fogelman taking shots at crafting Indy 5. At one point, the film’s plot was rumored to involve the search for Nazi gold. While pundits have been skeptical that the film would ever happen given the script issues, the importance of the franchise to Lucasfilm has always made the production of Indy 5 only a matter of time. After the critical misfire that was Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I have no doubt the film will be worth the wait. Here’s to Dr. Jones’ next adventure!
