Harry Potter and the New Domains

On January 13th, 2022, Warner Bros. registered the domain name “WizardingWorldFestival.com.” Don’t bother searching for the site; it doesn’t exist! Yet.

W.B. has a history of registering Harry Potter-related domains, usually for only two reasons.

The first reason is to prevent any fans and/or unofficial conventions and organizations from using the name “Wizarding World Festival.” It’s no secret that W.B. has come after fans who have wizarding world-related parties and unofficial gatherings.

For example, in 2019, W.B. sued a café in Hong Kong because it was Harry Potter-themed. In 2020, W.B. threatened to sue a non-profit organization called “Random Tuesday” for operating a Harry Potter-themed club. There are tons of other organizations and groups who have had W.B.’s lawyers come knocking on their doors.

The second reason is the most obvious: because they are planning something new and will use that domain. A great example was when W.B. registered the following: “Harrypotterforest.com,” “HarryPottersforest.com,” and “HarryPotterForbiddenforestexperience.com.” Soon after, the “Harry Potter A Forbidden Forest Experience” in the U.K. was announced.

Hold on to your butterbeers, as I guarantee you some sort of Harry Potter festival or celebration will be announced sometime this year! What do you think will be included in this festival? Share your opinions in the comment section!
