Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Trailer Exists

Barbs and bullets are about to be traded again as Lionsgate has released a trailer for Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. A sequel to 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard finds Ryan Reynolds’ professional protector Michael Bryce trying to leave the bodyguard business – only to be swept up in another adventure involving hitman Darius Kincaid and Kincaid’s wife Sonia, again played by Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek. As with its predecessor, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is directed by Patrick Hughes, and it also stars Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo, and Richard E. Grant. Another film that remains in the can after a lockdown-forced postponement, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard will release on June 16, 2021. Check out the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard trailer below:

It’s loud, it’s fast, and it features an out-of-date pop song that ironically plays over action sequences because look how wacky. That’s the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard trailer in a nutshell. In that way, I guess it looks to be as fitting a sequel as there could be to The Hitman’s Bodyguard. That movie was okay. In the win column, it had a great, fun performance from Samuel L. Jackson, and Gary Oldman made for a surprisingly effective villain (not surprising because it was the great Gary Oldman; surprising because it was found in a mediocre action picture made post-2000, where villains are sent to rot into blandness). Unfortunately, it also had some of the worst action that’s ever been shot (one fight had the camera pushed in and focused on Ryan Reynolds’ back – I’m not joking) and a completely miscast co-lead in Reynolds, whose character should have acted as the straight man to Jackson’s larger-than-life assassin instead of trying to one-up his outlandish personality. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard trailer makes the sequel look like more of the same, and since Patrick Hughes is directing again, I don’t imagine it will look any better.
