Is Warner Bros. Replacing Ezra Miller in The Flash?

The Flash may be changing his face at the speed of light. ScreenGeek exclusively reports that, in the wake of Ezra Miller’s nasty habit of assaulting people, Warner Bros. is “considering their options” for the upcoming DCEU movie The Flash, in which Miller portrays the titular Fastest Man Alive. That means they’re considering recasting Miller, and ScreenGeek has a source that says that Dylan O’Brien is one of the potential replacements. O’Brien was the star of The Maze Runner and its sequels, as well as a regular on Teen Wolf, the MTV TV series reboot/remake/reimagining/whatever of the 80s comedy films. (He was also the entirely-too-boyish-and-puny Mitch Rapp in the adaptation of Vince Flynn’s American Assassin.) There’s no information on any other potential replacements or how close Warner Bros. is to a decision.

If Warner Bros. decides to go this route, I’ll be all for it. I don’t have much of an opinion on Dylan O’Brien’s acting abilities or suitability for the role, as the only thing I’ve seen him in is The Internship, and I remember his performance about as well as I remember the rest of the movie, which is to say, barely. But I can’t stand Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, and whoever takes his place almost has to be better. ScreenGeek mentions fans wanting Grant Gustin to take over, and that would be my ideal situation as well, but like them, I understand that there could be logistical problems with that. It’s unknown how much of the multiverse Warner Bros. wants to preserve, and if they do intend to keep it, they may need a separate Barry Allen for the DCEU wing. Gustin has also signed on for another season of the TV series, meaning he probably wouldn’t be available to reshoot all of Miller’s footage, and after all the delays that have plagued the film – and the movie industry at large – I don’t think they’ll want to wait for him to finish his TV run and eat even more money than reshoots will cost them. Who knows? Maybe this will go well, with O’Brien or someone else, and we’ll have a multiverse Flash team-up that’s worth the price of admission one day.
