Knives Out 3 “Wake Up Dead Man” Gets Teaser, Release Date

“This was dressed as a miracle. But it’s just a murder.”

Yesterday, Netflix released a short video reminding us that Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery exists and announcing the film’s release date. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out threequel was ordered along with the second film, Glass Onion, back in 2021, when Netflix obtained rights to the series. Knives Out surprised in 2019 after Johnson’s The Last Jedi, the most divisive film ever in an already divisive Star Wars franchise. While both Knives Out and Glass Onion enjoyed theatrical releases (albeit a one-week event run for Glass Onion), no information at this time suggests a theatrical window for Wake Up Dead Man. The latest film in the mystery series hits Netflix on December 12th of this year. Check out the Wake Up Dead Man teaser here:

There’s not a lot to take away from this Wake Up Dead Man teaser, but that’s unsurprising since it’s really just a release date announcement. A poster would have done the same job. I find it strange to see Mila Kunis playing a sheriff or some type of police officer, although she only appears for a second in this video. I don’t think she’s a terrible actress or anything, but I find her difficult to take seriously. I don’t know how convincing she’ll be as an authority figure, but I guess we will have to wait and see. I’ve always liked the Knives Out movies, but I think they hire some of the supporting actors based on clout and recent roles instead of because they’re a good fit for their part. Cailee Spaeny is very much the flavor of the month at the moment, as another example. But the first Knives Out had an all-star cast, too; it just didn’t feel forced like Glass Onion and now Wake Up Dead Man’s casts do. Is it just me? Does this stand out to anyone else?

The editing and the small amount of dialogue in this Wake Up Dead Man teaser are extremely effective. I don’t feel like I learned anything about the film’s plot, but the video still genuinely got me excited to see the movie. Honestly, not a lot of trailers can do that anymore, especially not teasers, nothing-burgers that they typically are. This isn’t a complaint since it doesn’t affect the movie’s quality, but Daniel Craig looks horrible with this hair and beard combo. Something must have happened to him in-universe to ruin Benoit Blanc’s consistent, if gaudy, style. I could just be reading into this too much, but we’ll find out soon enough either way.

Wake Up Dead Man, Daniel Craig

I’m very excited to see Glenn Close, Thomas Haden Church, and Josh Brolin in Wake Up Dead Man. I haven’t seen Thomas Haden Church in a while, and I love Glenn Close. These are obviously famous actors, too, but their inclusion doesn’t feel gimmicky in the same way I referenced earlier with Cailee Spaeny and Mila Kunis. Regardless, I am looking forward to Wake Up Dead Man. Hopefully, we get a proper trailer soon, and then, we’ll have a better idea of what we’re looking at with Benoit Blanc’s next mystery.

I will watch Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery when it’s available on Netflix, and we’ll have a review right here on Geeks + Gamers. What do you think about the date reveal or anything else related to the movie? Let us know in the comments!
