Marc Guggenheim Reveals Secrets Behind Ezra Miller’s Crisis Cameo

We have some insight into how the DCEU’s Scarlet Speedster appeared in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” In an interview with Variety, Arrowverse showrunner Marc Guggenheim detailed how the top-secret cameo came about. The head of Warner Bros. TV, Peter Roth – who has been involved in a plethora of WB/CW Superhero TV series at least since Smallville – called Guggenheim asking if they would be able to put Ezra Miller into the show. With the Arrow hour being “soft-locked” (essentially meaning that the final cut of the episode was still malleable before it goes to the network and, subsequently, the airwaves), Guggenheim was able to slot the brief scene into the episode with the help of the Flash crew, the Arrow crew having already wrapped the series finale.

The fact that a studio head asked to have Ezra Miller included is nothing short of miraculous. For years, the producers behind the CW shows were always turned down when it came to using certain characters. Heck, at one point a couple of years ago, Stephen Amell, initially looking to talk to Geoff Johns, ended up asking for then-Warner Bros. head Kevin Tsujihara’s blessing to mention Bruce Wayne in an episode.  In addition, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Katana, and Amanda Waller, and, briefly, even Superman, were all tied up in the film division and weren’t allowed to be used, even though many of those characters were integral to the storylines of the Arrowverse. To finally have the two Flash actors together onscreen is fantastic and shows how much respect Miller has for the fans, and now I’m even more excited for his film’s July 2022 release.
