Mel Gibson Cast in John Wick Prequel Series, Twitter Meltdown Follows

Mel Gibson is set to star in the John Wick origin series The Continental, and the Twitter hordes are theoretically knocking down the door. Well, they’re being snotty on the internet, because they’re too scared to go outside because they haven’t had this week’s booster jab and putting on pants that large is a task for a crew. It’s just easier to bang Cheeto-caked fingers on a tiny screen and feign outrage over something that was settled over a decade and a half ago; against a group with whom they, too, have an odd obsession. Don’t you think they might have some common ground?

Deadline reports that the prequel will be presented as a three-night special event TV series produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television.

The Continental will explore the significance behind the hotel of the same name, a marquee location in the John Wick films. The series will take place from the perspective of a young Winston Scott, back in a 1975 version of New York City to confront the demons of his past. Winston recreates his life throughout New York’s seedy underbelly to ultimately descend upon the hotel, where the world’s most treacherous assassins rendezvous. Scott, who is played by the great Ian McShane in the films, has yet to be cast, as Gibson will play a character who goes by the name Cormac.

Mel Gibson

It’s a rare appearance on the small screen for the Academy Award winner, outside of the legendary Simpsons episode way back in 1999 and a television series in his home of Australia, The Sullivans, which ran from 1976-1983. Had the Lethal Weapon franchise started today, it would arguably be larger than the John Wick craze, which has, to date, grossed nearly $600 million. John Wick: Chapter Four is currently filming in Germany, France, and Japan.

Gibson’s accolades are too numerous to count, as are his scandals. In 2009, his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva released several secret recordings of the couple’s turbulent breakup, which was later settled for a reported $15 million. As legendary as the tapes are, may I suggest the Opie & Anthony coverage if you want to hear all the hilarious things Mel had to say to that Ice Queen. That story does have a happy ending; in 2015, for breach of a confidentiality agreement, the Russian singer-songwriter and ex of Timothy Dalton had to forfeit $500,000 of Mel’s money.

But what these losers on Twitter are in total meltdown over is the crazy shit William Wallace did in 2006 in his drunken state, ranting and raving at a Jewish police officer. It’s all water under the bridge; he apologized, right? He paid his debt to society. Isn’t that all these weirdos want? Obviously, they’re taking the announcement well.

That’s simply a small selection of fine examples of the level of intellect you can find out there on the smoldering trash heap of society. Mel rules; he’s one of the best ever, and they’re still hate-watching The Continental at the end of the day because they’re pathetic. Sucks to suck.
