More Fantastic Four Casting Rumors

Fantastic Four casting rumors are ramping up, meaning an announcement is likely imminent. Till then, though, we’ve got the rumors to mull over. DanielRPK (via JoBlo, because his content is behind a Patreon paywall) claims that Marvel is eyeing Adam Driver for Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Margot Robbie for Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Paul Mescal for Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and most surprisingly, Antonio Banderas for Galactus, with Robbie actually being offered her role. Directed by Matt Shakman, Fantastic Four will arrive in 2025 as part of the MCU’s Phase 6, which will culminate in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Little else is known about the film.

Adam Driver has been rumored for a while now, so that’s not much of a surprise. This is the first time I’ve seen Margot Robbie’s name pop up, but she’s a great choice for Sue. I don’t know who Paul Mescal is, and a look at IMDb tells me that’s because I’ve never seen anything in which he’s acted, but he seems like the type for Johnny Storm. If this is all true, it means Marvel is making the Four look like they traditionally do in the comics, as opposed to race or gender-swapping any of the characters. I wonder if that indicates that those rumors about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 tracking poorly are true, and Marvel and Disney are officially worried enough to give fans what they want. It’s worth noting that there’s no mention of The Thing, and this comes on the heels of those Mila Kunis rumors. (Is anyone else imagining her as Thing saying “Richard!” the way Jackie used to say “Michael!” on That 70s Show?”) Antonio Banderas feels like an out-of-left-field pick for Galactus; he’s a good actor, but he doesn’t strike me as the cosmic force of nature type. If Galactus is in this movie, I hope he’s being set up for future appearances; he should be a bigger threat than can be contained in one movie. It would also be nice to see a somewhat comics-accurate version of him; he’s so striking a figure, and I’d like to see him on the big screen. Of course, all of this could be nonsense, and the Four will be fighting The Mole Man or something. But the talk around Fantastic Four is intensifying.
