I have been a massive fan of the Hellboy movie series since its inception. There is something about this maverick hero that calls to me, and I have been waiting exceptionally impatiently for the newest installment into this cinematic world. Unfortunately, I will have to wait a while longer, and you along with me, as Hellboy (2019) will not be gracing your local movie theater screen until April 12th, 2019. Until this sure to be momentous trip to the movies, all we can do is wait, and devour each new piece of information, such as this new poster image courtesy of Entertainment Weekly! Hellboy looks… well, like a Hellman. His horns and hair have grown, and he sports a hellish looking blade to accompany his hulking physique. This isn’t the Hellboy we knew.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit, this poster definitely looks “legendary AF,” but I am still finding it hard to warm up to the idea of David Harbour playing my favorite big red key to the apocalypse. To me, Ron Perlman will always be Hellboy. Heck, you’d be hard pressed to convince me someone could play any of Ron Perlman’s characters better than him; the guy is a genius. Don’t get me wrong, I like David Harbour. It’s not that I don’t think he’ll do a bang-up job; he just isn’t Perlman. Those are some extraordinarily big shoes to fill. While I am disappointed that I won’t see Ron revisiting this role, I am willing to give this new-comer a chance. After all, it is still a Hellboy movie; I can’t help but be excited!
What do you think of this actor choice? Do you think David Harbour has what it takes to fulfill our Hellboy expectations? Sound off in the comments!
