The Foundation of Good TV

When AppleTV+ became available, I took the free week just to check it out. As a Grand Priest of all things Apple, I could do no less. Then I had the privilege of watching brilliant shows like “See” (Momoa forever!) and For All Mankind (OMG is that show amazing!). Then shortly after, I learned that Apple was financing the production of Foundation, and the deal was sealed. I read the Foundation Trilogy (the only books of that extended series worth reading) in my mid-teens, and I fell in love. This might have been the first sci-fi books I read, I’m not sure. It’s certainly the one I remember most from my teenage years. I must have read those over a dozen times over the course of my life.

And now, it’s coming out. I learned it was going to star Jared Harris (Madmen, Chernobyl) as Hari Seldon, another great plus to the show. What’s going to be VERY tricky is that Asimov wasn’t strong on descriptions, so the visual signature will no doubt be contentious. What truly matters, however, is how they manage to translate the amazing story he told into a TV format. I have concerns. I have doubts. BUT I’M SO STOKED I’M GOING TO EXPLODE!!!

Anyway, if you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the trailer:

Now go subscribe to AppleTV+.

After CBS All Access, I’m tepid at best. I need reviews.

That’s fair. I’ve never tried CBS All Access, so I can’t make a comparison. I’ve been largely very happy with the caliber of actors that Apple has been able to draw into their series, but I won’t pretend I’ve watched everything on their channel. When I have a moment, I’ll write a full review of For All Mankind, probably my favorite show of theirs so far.
