RUMOR: Obi-Wan Kenobi Headed to Theaters?

Rumors have been swirling around the Obi-Wan Kenobi series ever since its inception. Everything from character appearances to major plot points has been up in the air. The latest rumor comes from Reddit and tells us that the series will be shown in cinemas after the finale streams. Episodes 1-4 have been released over the past three weeks on Disney+ to middling reviews. Check out the source of the rumor here.

This would be unusual, but I don’t think it’s impossible for it to be true. Disney and Lucasfilm have some pretty big heads and seem pleased with themselves over this show. If I recall correctly, the first episode of Marvel’s Inhumans was shown on theater screens. I’ll say this for Obi-Wan: more people like it than Inhumans. I guess it has to have something going for it.

This is not to say I think it would be a particularly good idea. Unless the final two episodes of this series are a huge improvement over the first four, which I doubt, I don’t see why you would do this. I don’t understand the methods over at modern-day Lucasfilm; they create something they know will harm the canon and infuriate many of the fans, then get mad when it’s not accepted wholeheartedly. This is when the racist and sexist monikers come out. I’m really happy for the people who are loving this series. I wish I could join them. There was an easy, obvious story here waiting to be told, but instead, we’re getting the Little Leia Chronicles co-starring Third Sister Reva.

*An earlier version of this article stated that only the finale two episodes would be shown theatrically; the theater listing linked to in the Reddit post has a runtime of 5 hours and 20 minutes, suggesting the entire series will play in theaters.*
