This news has been going around for a few days now and it is annoying the hell out of me because the second I read/heard it I knew it was a lie for one simple reason. They are not mentioning the budget of all the movies and tv shows which also goes against that claimed profit.
Here is an article for reference in the Disney claims that they made an 8 billion profit off Star Wars so far. It is a LIE!
https://www.cbr.com/disneys-huge-star-wars-profits-revealed/
Lucasfilm was purchased for $4.05 billion. Disney actually says it was a 12 million profit, but the $4.05 billion cost to purchase Lucasfilm is removed to make it 8 billion profit. So, let’s use that that logic shall we? They are failing to mention the budget of each movie and tv show, and how much that is combined to be removed from that profit margin.
So, here are the (sometimes estimated) budget costs of each tv show and movie so far:
Movies
The Force Awakens – $447 million budget
The Last Jedi – $300 million budget
The Rise of Palpatine – $416 million budget
Rogue One – $232 million budget
Solo: A Unwanted Star Wars Story – $271 million
TV Shows
Obi Wan – $90 million budget
Ahsoka – $100 million budget
The Book of Boba Fett – $105 million budget
Andor – $250 million budget
The Clone Wars Seasons 7 – Unknown
Tales of the Jedi – Unknown
Star Wars Visions Season 1 and 2 – Unknown
The Mandalorian – $360 million budget (all 3 seasons combined)
(Upcoming shows that are already filmed and nearly done so count towards this)
The Acolyte – $170 million budget
Skeleton Crew – $136 million budget
Andor Season Two – Unknown
But wait, there is more. One thing people forget is that Indiana Jones is ALSO Lucasfilm. And we had Dial of Destiny didn’t we?
Indian Jones and the Dial of Destiny – $295 million budget
Ohh, but there is one more. Willow. Yes, the Willow tv series that you can’t even watch anymore. That is also a Lucasfilm production.
Willow tv show – $105.9 budget.
Add all this up and you have 3.4 billion estimated budget costs across all productions. We don’t know the budget of four of these and there is also other fee’s and advertisement, etc. So, I am going to be very generous and say 3.4 billion in budget for everything. That means the claimed 8 billion in profit goes down to 4.6 billion in profit. And, again, that is being generous. It’s realistically probably closer to 4. Disney spent 4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm and has only made less than 4.6 billion in profit from it after all budgets and everything said and done.
Disney is lying. As are all the articles and news about it.
End of Line.
I am talking this without KK or the Wokies under her control. This is what could be.
Been thinking on {The Mandalorian}, in truth it is over and no need for that story to continue. In fact I would say it would be excellent if it did not, we had the story, the plot, the goal and the ending.
Along the way we had set-ups for the continuation of “Stories in the Star Wars Universe” introduced to the nonserious fans as feelers to see which ones took and which did not. Watching Social media it is clear that several resonated with the general audience:
Ahsoka
Bo Katana
Thrawn
Boba Fett
Luke Skywalker
If Lucas Film had half a brain they would start with Boba and Bo Katana as a pure stand alone shows not getting involved at all with the main Star Wars shows which would be Ahsoka and Thrawn.
The Mandalorian plot with Bo Katana and her struggles and triumphs would make for at least 2 to 4 seasons as would Bobba, with his adventures. Done right they could be 16 episodes for each season having one in fall and winter and one in Spring and summer. Toss in some Bad Batch and it’s a year of Star Wars or should I say Four Years.
During this time, we could have Thrawn done, I keep thinking it needs to be done in Game of Thrones 1 hour episodes, lets face it Thrawn was not about battles but his manipulation and workings. He was also not a “bad guy” certainly no Imperial in the normal way <trying to be spoiler freeish>. We could get 2 seasons of backstory on Thrawn and then 3 seasons with Him as an Imperial maybe 4.
Ahsoka, I think could be 3 seasons intertwined with Thrawns last 2 season and then possibly tying back in to Luke which would be 7 seasons. All in All in the time line this could with a few leaps take us to 15ABY
One thing I have always hated was tv series that go on to long, Mando is done, now let’s get the others going, there are after-all plenty of stories to do and raw from and they do not need to be long or drawn out. This new 10 show per season format actually is annoying to me, I like the old long seasons when good stories could be told. There is no reason we cannot have that with these shows.
Let me leave you with this… I am talking this without KK or the Wokies under her control. This is what could be.
So I was reading this article which quoted Pedro Pascal with this:
The article was focusing on the fact that characters and story lines may cross over between each spin off series. This is something that I already assumed would happen.
But the interesting thing that I read in this quote was the word timelines. Seems like a clue to me. You probably know that there is speculation that the Mandalorian and spinoffs will essentially retcon the Disney trilogy. The method to making this happen in a smooth and uninsulting way would be to create multiple Star Wars timelines.
Creative writers can probably come up with multiple ways of making this happen. The most recent idea I’ve read (not taking credit for) deals with Ezra and Ahsoka. In the animated show Rebels Ahsoka is battling Darth Vader. One timeline suggests that Darth Vader killed her. This explains why her voice is heard in Rey’s head at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
Those who are familiar enough with Rebels also know that Ezra, while travelling in the World Between Worlds, or what I call the netherworld of the Force as Yoda once called it, he was able to travel to multiple time periods in the galaxy. When he saw Vader about to kill Ahsoka he pulled her out of there and into the netherworld with him. She returned to her time, but alive. This changed the timeline. Now Vader did not kill Ahsoka. This opens up a whole new possible timeline to be explored. One in which maybe Luke doesn’t give in to his fear and raise his saber to young Ben. One in which Grogu is part of Luke’s Jedi Academy. It’s easy to assume that happened right?
Prior to the Disney trilogy I would have rejected this idea. A purist at heart, I would have wanted to stick to a linear timeline of events. But with the smack in the face known as The Last Jedi, which subsequently affected the entire trilogy, I more than welcome this concept now. Let’s have an alternate timeline where Luke Skywalker can be great again as the beacon of hope that he is supposed to be.
