I agree.
Generally, pros review the product, while users review the experience. Important difference, imo, especially in this case, where Neil himself said his creative goal for TLoUP2 was to “make it uncomfortable because art at times should be uncomfortable“.
Well, some players are having a terrible experience with this game, finding it intolerably “uncomfortable”, in spite of the quality production.
I listened to much of the above video. It actually did include many criticisms — though presented almost apologetically.
After seeing the comparisons between the trailers, promo images, synopsis and finished game I was wondering if there’s any basis for a class action law suit? As far as I can tell these are some issues that have already been highlighted;
– The trailers and finished game don’t have the same level of polish
– The plot and synopsis hinted are that Ellie and Joel will still be the main characters
– Pre release reviews are sketchy at best and have been popping up on the Playstation store about a month before any review copies were released to the press, let alone the general public
– News Outlet reviews all sound the same and fail/avoid to point out any negative aspects of the game and they all have a “unanimous” opinion that the game is a masterpiece
– Unlawful DMCA takedowns of discussions online of the game before its release
I know that this will end up nowhere, but I can’t shake the fact that Sony and Naughty Dog are going to get away with it all.
Absolutely, they are allowed to love the game genuinely. Some of them loved the first one and it helped their channel grow, but at the same time I question Youtubers that get early copies of games. They have become the new IGN or reviewer. Lots of room for diluted opinions when money gets involved.
I say this as a fan of both of these guys, and a former Naughty Dog fan.
I like both the original Star Trek and Next Generation series very much. I can’t decide which I like better between the two, because they are so different, yet so very good.
However, I couldn’t maintain interest in any of the other series after that. I watched only a couple episodes of Deep Space Nine and Voyager; they were OK, but didn’t have the same charm as the first two. I could never accept the idea of Scott Bakula as a Star Trek character, so I didn’t bother watching Enterprise, nor any other Star Trek series released after that.
I used to have high regards for Patrick Stewart, until I watched a highly critical review of the Picard series by “The Angry Joe Show“. What a betrayal.
Well I haven’t been taking notes, but I have to respectfully disagree about “100%”.
For example, in this video here starting at 20:22, Joe pokes fun at Twitch for inconsistent application of rules (he says they are enforced more against men than women) and of the “Twitch Safety Council”, featuring their “transgenDEER” member, whom he called out for referring to white male gamers as “white supremacists”. He advocated removal of this “transgenDEER” (thinks itself to be a deer) from the council.
Here is a link to that video: AJS News
Sometimes he does tend to speak before he knows all the facts…but then, so does our President…every once in a while…. ;). He is fallible, most people are.
Regarding Twitter, I think you might be referring to his personal Twitter account under his real name. Although it is linked to his AJS contact info, I don’t mind people using their own personal Twitter accounts however they wish, including talking about political or social issues.
I don’t think his personal taste in Star Wars and Marvel movies necessarily define him as “woke”, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t give a lot of them raving reviews. I’d have to go back and re-watch his old videos to confirm.
Joe does consistently berate the use of anti-consumer practices such as micro-transactions (while aknowledging that personal responsibility should prevail) and game developers who don’t deliver what they promise.
In his video titled “The Last of Us Part II Spoilers Discussion: Copyright Abuse! – Angry Rant!“, Joe said:
Sony is coming in and striking channels simply for discussing it.
He supported and named channels (like Mirta’s channel) which Sony was copyright-striking, and asked other people to support them too.

Last but not least, this video:

Sony is coming in and striking channels simply for discussing it. – Joe
Fuck Naughty Dog and fuck the last of us, thanks to Skill Up’s review of the the game which he playing non biased at all , it is confirmed all the woke ass garbage thrown into the game is true, although Abby’s or how he, she whatever the hell it wants to be called is a bit different of a look, the story, and message is clear they are pushing agendas.
Generally speaking, as a consumer, I don’t boycott over a company’s political opinions or affiliations or lobbying practices. Most of the time, I just buy what I like.
I do boycott companies that make decisions or engage in practices that endanger consumers. For example, I refuse to buy Peter Pan peanut butter due to the roach feces fiasco years ago. I also refuse to buy Eukaneuba/Iams pet food due to the melamine contamination incident with the Iams brand years ago. In both cases, I have superior alternatives anyway, so this is painless and easy.
The same goes for Naugthy Dog and TLoUP2. I’m not ignoring TLoUP2 because of Neil Druckmann’s political or social opinions, nor because of what Sony did to content creators on YouTube and Twitter (sorry guys). Rather, I’m not buying the game because I know I’m not going to like the game. If the sequel had heart and soul featuring a story about people bonding through adversity and holding on to the smallest strand of hope to overcome daunting challenges — you know, like the first game, I would buy it anyway (sorry guys). But Neil Druckmann himself admitted the sequel was anything but, and early reviewers have confirmed that. So it’s a “bad product”, imo.
Regarding customer service, that sometimes does factor into my purchases if what I’m buying is a high-value item that I expect to last a long time, like a car. It depends on the product. I don’t care about customer service regarding any of the above companies, because in those cases the value is relatively small and the customer service in question would normally be a third-party, the retailer — Amazon or Publix.
The exception is intangible products — like phone or internet services. I those cases, yes, customer service vs. product quality probably weighs about 50/50 only because without reliability, there is no “product” (i.e., how often does the service go down, and when the service is down, how quickly is it restored). In this case, yeah, customer service is a big part of the product.
Bottom line, yeah, I agree with Jeremy, if his contention was “I don’t care what they say as long as they deliver a good product.”
P.S. About this scenario:
“If you walked into a restaurant that made the best steaks in the city and the chef came out, placed the steak on your table and lectured you on how you were a sick fucking bastard because you ate meat and called you all sorts of names, would you still keep coming back?”
I wouldn’t want to buy any food prepared by someone with such lack of respect and self-control, because he’d just as soon lace the food with something miserable. I think this is consistent; in this case the verbal assault lends to suspicions about the product, why I would no longer buy it.
