How To Train Your Dragon – In Theaters June 13

From three-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative visionary behind DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, comes a stunning live-action reimagining of the film that launched the beloved franchise.
On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Snow White and the Huntsman, Shaun of the Dead) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding.
As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.

The film also stars Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Bodies), Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), BAFTA nominee Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).
How to Train Your Dragon is written, produced and directed by DeBlois. It is also produced by three-time Oscar® nominee Marc Platt (Wicked, La La Land) and Emmy winner Adam Siegel (Drive, 2 Guns). How To Train Your Dragon is part of the Filmed For IMAX® Program, which offers filmmakers IMAX® technology to help them deliver the most immersive movie experience to audiences around the world.

Inspired by Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon franchise has captivated global audiences, earning four Academy Award® nominations and grossing more than $1.6 billion at the global box-office. Now, through cutting-edge visual effects, DeBlois transforms his beloved animated saga into a breathtaking live-action spectacle, bringing the epic adventures of Hiccup and Toothless to life with jaw-dropping realism as they discover the true meaning of friendship, courage and destiny.

    Topic: The Chosen

    in forum Television

Has anyone on here watched this? I’ve watched all three seasons multiple times so far, supported all three seasons financially, and watched almost all the bonus content so far.  Note: hear me out, especially if you are atheist:

Okay, so it is a TV show about Jesus and The Disciples and the people around them.  However, it is as much better an example of that as Guardians of the Galaxy is a better super hero movie than Elektra.  It’s the most successful crowdfunding show ever now at a total in the tens of millions. The costumes, historical level of detail, and soundtrack are incredible.  It has thousands of extras. It has hundreds of millions of views. The cinematography, character development, and scripts are tighter than anything to come out of Hollywood in some time.

If you haven’t watched it, even if you’re atheist, give the first episode, at least, a watch. If for nothing else, come and see what is possible with crowdfunding, talent, and an audience. The show is free. The first episode is one hour. Jesus is in, like, 1 minute. You can at least give it that one episode. If you don’t at least like it as a proof of concept for crowdfunding outside Hollywood, I’ll refund your money.

I had similar thoughts when I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 3 yesterday. Sure the message was how bad animal cruelty is, which is something we can all agree on, but I thought of this due to how much I’ve been seeing it recently.

Watched the movie this afternoon. I was pretty happy with it.

I didn’t notice any woke stuff inserted; if anything, there may have been some intentional not-woke stuff in it; for example, the scene were Groot pulls out a redneck pick-up truck full of weapons and joins Quill in blasting the bad guys.

Some of the character arcs were very good. Nebula was more central in this movie than in the earlier ones, and she carried her part of the story very well. The flashbacks of Rocket’s past were very moving. I even liked that it not all the story elements were resolved in predictable ways.

Any complaints? For a movie that seems to be intended to appeal to children, while still not being a kids’ movie, the language was at times too strong, one big part of the movie is an act of genocide or even xenocide, though the action scenes may distract from what is really happening, and there are some creatures who have been subjected to experiments and have, for example, spider-like legs and no mouth, or thin metal arms.

So, I may recommend some caution in taking kids to see it, but outside of that, I can’t think of any big caveats.

I blame ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ for this current “forced humour” formula that the MCU keeps trying to put out. I personally think that it’s gotten very stale. I’m not saying that everything has to be dark and serious DC-style but they should at least try to even it out a bit. The last MCU film I can remember being anything like that was ‘The Winter Soldier’. Although they kinda tried to bring it back with Doctor Strange 2.

Clearly these people are NOT fans if they’re demanding a trigger warning for something like this! Where were they during ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and the first ‘Deadpool’ film then??? These are the same kind of people that probably need a trigger warning for whenever they go out the front door. If they ever go out the front door that is!

Last few seconds of that trailer, Thor’s Hammer flies past Thor and is grabbed by…. Ms.Thor (Portman?)

There is NOTHING in that trailer that is saying to me… “Watch me!  It will be fun and exciting!”.

Even the scenes with the Guardians of the Galaxy looked flat.

If I go by ONLY this trailer… it is a pass.

What is everyone’s favorite Telltale Game(s)?

      I like the following

Minecraft Story Mode Seasons 1 and 2

      Guardians of the Galaxy

Batman Season 1 (currently playing through season 2)

      In reply to:

If I were rebooting the MCU, or continuing it from Endgame, I would focus on only a few new characters/teams to develop. The existing ones that would make the cut would be Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, Falcon, Bucky, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. I’d also like to bring back some of Marvel’s old Netflix shows, like Daredevil and Punisher, that would target a more mature audience. Characters I’d like to introduce to the new MCU would probably be the Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze), She-Hulk (classic, not modern), Blade, Namor, Silver Surfer and Moon Knight.

I’d also like to bring in the X-Men and Deadpool, but they would be from an alternate universe so as to not conflict with the world-building. The X-Men lineup would start with Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Beast. I’d also like to bring in Venom as well, especially if his movies can canonically take place in that universe.

As for the villains, I plan on each hero to have an archenemy so there’s a constant threat in their solo movies. They would be Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Spider-Man), Baron Mordo (Doctor Strange), time-displaced Loki (Thor), Agatha Harkness (Scarlet Witch), Sonny Burch (Ant-Man), Baron Zemo (Falcon & Bucky), Kingpin & Bullseye (Daredevil), Jigsaw (Punisher), Doctor Doom (Fantastic Four), Mephisto (Ghost Rider & Silver Surfer), Titania or the Leader (She-Hulk), Deacon Frost (Blade), Attuma (Namor), Raoul Bushman (Moon Knight) and Magneto/Brotherhood of Mutants (X-Men). That way, there’s a clear obstacle for each hero to overcome in their own story, giving more stakes to the solo films.

Of course, there would have to be an overarching villain for each hero to come together and face, with the most obvious ones being Galactus or Kang the Conqueror. Another possible choice would be the Beyonder from Secret Wars, or even the Grandmaster if he decided to kidnap every hero and force them into participating in his Contest of Champions (that is, if the people of Sakaar still allow him to rule, but he’d probably find somewhere else to settle).

For the characters that would be retired, they’d be Carol Danvers (I’d have Rogue steal her powers and put her in a coma for the entire length of the franchise), the Eternals, Black Panther (because of Chadwick’s unfortunate passing), Shang-Chi, Hawkeye (I just think he should go home and be a family man), and all the yet-to-be introduced characters, like Kamala Khan, Ironheart, Kate Bishop, America Chavez and Jane Foster Thor.

Sorry to go on-and-on, but, as a huge Marvel fan, I am just uninterested in many of the new projects the MCU has in the future. I have no interest in seeing Eternals, I STILL haven’t gone on Disney+ to watch Black Widow, and the only new stuff I’m interested in are Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2. I hope the fans voice their opinions on Phase 4 and for the people at Marvel Studios to listen to their feedback (which, as we all know, will likely never happen). Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this entire response. Hope y’all have a great day.

      In reply to: Venom 2

      Too much “humour”, IMO.

They are trying too hard to be like Guardians of the Galaxy on the humour level, it takes away from what Venom is.

Time will tell if it works in this film or not.

Of course this would be done on Henry’s birthday because the guy behind that black Superman idea hates white people.

No one outside the hardcore DC fanboys cares about Shazam or Black Adam.

What a lame arguement. No one outside of DC fans care about anything besides Superman or Batman yet the first Wonder Woman and Aquaman movies did pretty well. Hell, before the MCU, no one outside of Marvel fans cared about the Avengers or the Guardians of the Galaxy yet look where those titles have been throughout the late 2000s – 2019.

Black Widow – This movie should’ve come out years ago

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – Don’t care

Eternals – Pretty much every character has been tokenized. Also don’t care

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – Would’ve been excited for it if we hadn’t gotten the news that Strange was cut out of WandaVision for basically being a white guy

Thor: Love and Thunder – Female Thor. Also the title sucks

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Only interested to see what they do with the movie since Chadwick Boseman passed

      The Marvels – Nononononononononono

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – Don’t know anything about it yet, but I just hate the title

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – Interested to see if they finally do something with Adam Warlock

Fantastic Four – Maybe they’ll finally do it right, but with the direction of the MCU I’m not so sure

Haven’t gotten round to watching the full shows beginning to end, but I’ve definitely seen lots of episodes of Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man as they used to be on TV when I was in high school, also watched Guardians Of The Galaxy and Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.

There’s lots of great Marvel cartoons to watch even from before Disney

I grew up watching 90s X-Men, Spider-Man and Hulk, and later X-Men Evolution and Fantastic 4 World’s Greatest Heroes

        I’d also recommend:

Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – This series came out just before Avengers Assemble, the episodes are drawn straight from the comics

Super Hero Squad – This one’s supposed to be for little kids, but it’s freaking hilarious

        Future Avengers – Avengers anime!

If you’ve watched Guardians of the Galaxy you should know what a cassette tape is, VHS is like a cassette tape but for video, and it’s bigger, in fact, VHSs are also called video cassettes, I’ll post some pics when I get on a computer tomorrow 😅
