As one who had “cut the cable” over  decade ago, I do not miss “modern TV”.

Most shows I will watch/own on DVD.

Be it Star Trek, ST:TNG, MASH, Babylon 5, Space 1999, Dukes of Hazzard, Get Smart, Sgt.Bilko, LEXX, Red Drawf, Orville, Flintstones, Simpsons, Andromeda, Farscape, Gilligan’s Island, just to name a few.

    Then there are the movies.

And yes, everyone needs to buy physical media, as then you OWN that copy, to watch when, where and how often I want without censorship.

On-line is a temporary license with edits and censorship.

I strongly dislike the pay-to-view model.  I will wait till I can buy it physically.

Pre-covid, the only shows I would watch (as I could on-line without pay-per-view) was The Blacklist, The Orville.

I have not watch The Blacklist, as their release schedule was so horrible, and I missed so many episodes, I gave up on the show.

The Orville, moving to a new network I can’t watch, does not help either.

There has been several shows I would have liked to watch/buy physical copies of, but they are not offered.

    Avenue 5 – streaming only.

The Tick – amazon streaming only.

    etc.

I have no answer when it comes to American shows like the ones you listed. The “remaining audience” answer is probably the only  logical one easily grasped. I personally haven’t watched such shows in decades because 1) they stopped being funny a lifetime ago, 2) they all became agenda driven.

I know that there is a huge Seth McFarlane fanbase through out our communities here thanks to love of The Orville, with favorite YouTubers like Doomcock and Nerdrotic among them. I personally say fuck Seth McFarlane for one reason and one reason only that to me is unforgivable. Back during the 2008 election, during the annual Family Guy Road to Wherever spoof they would put Stewie and Brian through, the pair went time traveling and ended up in Nazi Germany. Well…on the run from Nazis, Stewie stops and lifts up one up the lapel of a fallen Nazi, and underneath was a McCain/Palin campaign pin.

Right there. Seth McFarlane was calling people he disagreed with politically Nazis as far back as 2008. Proto SJW bullshit, thank you VERY much. So everyone can fawn over how great the Orville is…I don’t give two fucks, because McFarlane was doing SJW bullshit as far back as 2008. I quit watching Family Guy immediately because of that shit, and I refuse to watch or support anything Seth McFarlane for the rest of my life. So if we’re going to call out SJWs for calling people Nazis, then McFarlane does not get a pass and should be called out too, I don’t care how much The Orville is filling your Star Trek wants hole.

As for Anime that never ends….anime will go on as long as there is source material. Detective Conan and One Piece will go until the mangas end.

    In reply to: Boycotts

1.) STD & STP & STld (also known as Star Trek Discovery & Star Trek Picard & Star Trek Lower Decks)

2.) Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek was always about a brighter future for everyone.  Each TV episode (STO, STN) had a moral story, but they did not lecture you one it.  STD & STP are as anti-Gene’s Star Trek as can be.  For me, they are not Star Trek.  The Orville is more Star Trek then that garbage.  And to try to politicize entertainment was/is a big turn off for me.

I have a feeling that Disney has somehow been scheming to nuke Star Trek by bribing people at CBS so that Star Wars would be the only space franchise that’s left. They didn’t account for The Orville.

I agree with The Orville and the original Star Trek.

What TV series would you folks recommend to give your spirit a little boost during these troubled times?

Recently rewatched Star Trek DS9. Some of my other recommendations would include:

    The A-team

    MacGyver (the 80s series)

    The Orville

    Star Trek TNG

    Star Trek TOS

I love The Orville, it really is what Trek should or could be nowadays, I wasn’t convinced with the first season because I watched it thinking it would be Family Guy or Ted in space, I expected a comedy and in the end I got Trek without realizing it so I wasn’t sure about my feelings towards it. When the second season aired that’s when it hit me, and loved everything about it since then.

I know about the existence of ST Continues, but that’s about it. I’m currently watching all Trek series for the second time and loving it (feels like reconnecting with old friends), already watched TOS/TAS and started TNG a week ago, I’ll try to watch ST Continues to check it out. I know there are fan made series and movies on youtube but I don’t know if they are still there or if they were removed because of copyrights or whatever, 2 years ago I made a ST playlist and several months later a lot of the videos were taken down.

That’s very similar to how I got into ST only I first got exposure to TNG and then I watched TOS. Check out Star Trek Continues and the Orville if you haven’t already – I’m sure it will make you happy. :)
