I refused to get any of their BLACK LABEL rated mature over-priced comics.  (I had gotten the Harleen series it is was NOT worth the cost, IMO)

I refused to get any of their perversion/rainbow comics titles that celebrates immoral actions/lifestyles.

I refused to get any of their 5G/Future State titles.  (I did get The Flash, but the rest would only be from the dollar bin.)

As for those characters/concepts that were introduced:

Even thought I have Superboy comics since the 1990’s, him taking over the mantle of superman is a big NO.

Even thought I have Lobo comics since the 1990’s, Crush & Lobo at full price is a big NO.  (I’ll wait till they are in the dollar bin.)

Even thought I have Detective/Batman comics since the 1980’s, The next batman is also a big NO.

    NO to wonder girl.  etc.

And this season of the Batman, where it feels like every other DC title is Bat-related… NO!

It is getting to the stage where DC Publishing needs to license out their comics, because they can’t under how their current parent company runs DC Publishing.  Its recent move does not help either.

Everyone knows about Dragon Ball’s English Dub by Funimation. Whether you’ve seen it on the Orange Bricks, filler and all, or have watched Kai, it’s no doubt one of the most recognizable dubs in maybe the entire industry. Some people even argue that the Funimation cast does a better job than the original Japanese VA’s. However I’d like to bring the attention to the much older, original dub of DBZ created by Ocean Production’s in Vancouver. It debuted in 1995 to huge success on Toonami. Here’s an example of some of the people on the cast:

    Ian Corlett as Goku

    Brian Drummond as Vegeta

    Scott McNeil as Piccolo

    Saffron Henderson as Kid Gohan

    Don Brown as King Kai

    and Terry Klassen as Krillin

Just to name a few. The Dub was censored during it’s run cutting out some of the more bloody moments, like when you see the hole in Goku’s chest after Piccolo kills him and Raditz. They also cut out some of the parts showing gohan getting knocked around by Raditz and the Ginyu Force. These didn’t detract from the overall experience however since they usually added a flash to indicate that Gohan in fact did get hit. They also weren’t allowed to say death and kill in the dub. This changed lines like “I’ll kill you,” to instead be “I’ll destroy you.” This dub, like the original Funimation Dub, replaced the music by Shunsuke Kikuchi. Instead the score used in the Ocean Dub was composed by Shuck Levy, with the title theme “Rock the Dragon” (which had lyrics unlike Funimation’s op) was composed and written by Ron Wasserman. Shuck Levy and Ron Wasserman actually composed the music for Power Rangers as well. In fact, Saban and many of the people who were involved with the production of Power Rangers worked on this dub, which is why some fans title it “The Saban Dub.” This dub also featured many sound effect changes in an attempt to make the sfx more “modern.” The show aired the first and second season of DBZ, which is the Saiyan and Namek Sagas respectively, until it was unfortunately cancelled at Episode 53: Goku…Super Saiyan. Why this happened is unclear, however if anyone does know then please feel free to message me in the comments below. Before Ocean threw in the towel, in 1997 they attempted at doing what would be the very first uncut version of DBZ. The uncut version was not a collection of uncut episodes however, instead it was a dub of the first three DBZ Movies: The Dead Zone, The World’s Strongest, and The Tree of Might. While the TV Show was produced by Funimation, these movies were produced by Pioneer Studios. This dub featured a second voice actor for Goku, Peter Kelamis, who replaced Ian Corlett in the show in Episode 38. It also featured, what I still think to be, the most accurate translation of the original Japanese scripts for Dragon Ball, period. This includes cursing by the way if you were curios, and the mention of death. They even kept the original score by Kikuchi. These movies did extremely well and Dragon Ball fans were eventually going to get a full dub of the series uncut like this, but complications happened and Funimation took over.

However this is not the end of Ocean. While the American audience got the Funimation Dub, in 2000 the UK, Canada, and The Neverlands got the return of the Ocean Dub. Now in coinciding with Westwood Studios and AB Group, the original cast returned to finish the entire series starting at Episode 108: Goku’s Special Technique. This time the dub worked a little bit differently. The script in the original Ocean/Saban Dub had been completely original with Funimation copying it later on when they redubbed Season’s 1 and 2. This time however the Ocean Dub had used Funimation’s scripts making some small tweaks here and there. The music also was not composed by Shuck Levy anymore. Instead the show featured music from the group Anitunes. This included the theme song by Ron Wasserman being replaced by a new theme by Anitunes. The music by Anitunes actually reused music from many other Ocean produced dubs and cartoons like Monster Rancher, and even the Mega Man Cartoon Series. This was due to the time constraints and the budget mainly being focused on the voice acting. However in the last season the show did get original tracks. Near the end of the dub’s lifespan in the Buu Saga, they even allowed the words death and kill to be used. Something also worth noting is that in Episode 145 we got a third voice actor for Goku, who was Kirby Morrow. This dub is referred to by the fans as the Westwood Dub, so I will use that name to refer to this later dub to differentiate from the earlier, Saban Dub.

The next thing about this dub is availability and the problem with Funimation. The original Ocean/Saban Dub can be bought two different ways. The first one is to buy the DVDs that contain 3 episodes per DVD. Funimation even copied this after their Dub took over. The price can range from 10 to 20 dollars per DVD. The other is the Rock The Dragon Set that contains the entirety of Season’s 1 and 2. It also contains a booklet talking briefly about the impact the Ocean Dub had on Toonami. The set came out in 2013, and it is extremely expensive. Some sets I’ve seen even go up to $900. The later Ocean/Westwood Dub however has no release. The only way to watch it is to find it online. The episodes themselves have either been recorded on a VCR or DVD player from 2001-2003. The videos were compiled by many different members of the Dragon Ball community with the visual quality being not very good. However there is someone out there as we speak syncing up the highest quality audio with the highest video quality of DBZ, which is from the Dragon Box DVDs. I won’t say where, but I will say that it’s on a popular anime website. Anywho, you may ask “Well why is it not available?” That’s a great question, so here’s two answers. The first reason is that it’s in licensing hell between three companies. The second one is more potent however, because of Funimation. I won’t go into here about Funimation since I’m sure everyone here knows about  a lot of the shit they’ve pulled, but one thing is that they hate other people associated with their biggest cash cow. Sean Schemmel had even got Peter Kelamis’ appearance at a con cancelled since Sean didn’t want another Goku there other than himself. They released the Rock The Dragon Box Set as a way to shut up the fans who still talk about the Ocean Dub, and they haven’t included it in anything since. They try to cover it up, never mentioning it ever. That’s pretty much the gist of the whole deal with Ocean Studio’s Dragon Ball, however there is one more thing of interest.

In 2010 DBZ Kai was broadcasted to the world, but did you know that there was an Ocean Dub of that? It is lost media since it has never been released, but has been confirmed by almost the entire cast of the Ocean Dub, with everyone returning except for the three Gokus. This means there was a 4th Goku for this dub, with many people saying Goku was played by Richard Ian Cox in this dub. The dub has been said to have been uncut, and it was completely finished. It had a completely new script/ translation, and it featured music by Anitunes once again, this time using completely original tracks composed for DBZ Kai. Whether it will release or not is uncertain, but as of recently there has been interest by multiple networks to air this dub.

As for my thoughts, I grew up on the dubbed version of DBZ Kai, but I do not think it’s the best version to watch the show. As a kid it’s all I had seen of Dragon Ball, but since then I’ve watched the entire series many times in many different languages. The best version of DBZ to me is still the filler/ original version for the show, and my favorite dub is the Ocean Dub. I didn’t grow up with it so I have no bias towards it, in fact I first watched this version only two years ago. I just find it an objectively better version of the show to me compared to Funimation. “Is this because of the stuff Funimation’s done?” Not completely, but it does factor into my decision. Overall I think the voices in the Ocean Dub fit the characters better, and I think that they fit the character’s better, with Peter Kelamis doing an amazing job of bringing the tone of Masako Nozawa’s Goku to English perfectly.

Anyways that’s my Ocean history lesson for anyone who didn’t know about it and I’m curious to hear what you guys have to say.

    Current shows bolded…

Black Sails – it’s about Pirates!

    Vikings – it’s about Vikings!

    The Americans – it’s about Ameri…er…Russians!

Atlanta – fantastic comedy drama from Donald Glover. The flashback episode from Season Two involving kids teasing others for wearing knockoff clothes to school back the 90’s is one of the most relatable episodes of television I’ve ever seen.

Baskets – The best comedy in ages. Louie Anderson absoutely killed it as Zack Galifinakis’ mom.

Bates Motel – Freddy Highmore also kills it as Norman Bates in this imagining of Psycho. The step-brother character is a drag, and Rhianna can not fucking act, but really fun show.

Better Call Saul – I’m sure you’re already aware of.

Bloodline – Family crime drama set in the breathtakenly beautiful Florida Keys. Really strong performances, three seasons, each is a drop in quality over the previous. Ben Mendohlson steals the show in the first.

Broadchurch – Really heavy investigation show set in a small English town, Season One and Three are great.

The Exorcist (season one) – Waaaaay better than it has any right to be. Quality stuff you don’t typically see on broadcast televison.

Fargo – Wonderful expansion on the film, even the last season which just ended which went off the rails a bit. The second season (set in the 70’s) is its best.

Frontier – mediocre but watchable Jason Mamoa period piece about the fur trade in the French Canadian Territories.

Hannibal – This is how you reboot a property, might be the most graphic series to air on broadcast television. Gets super pretentious, almost to the point showrunner Bryan Fuller was challenging NBC to cancel them, but mannn…it’s a great adaptation of the characters. If only they had the rights to Clarice Starling back then as they were tied up at Lifetime.

Legion – The best thing Fox ever did with the X-men license.

Longmire – modern day western detective show set in Wyoming. Does a lot of things Yellowstone tries to and fails. Like giving it’s Native cast members actual fucking material to work with, not just to have them around because the setting requires it.

Luther – A decent Idris Elba detective series featuring a female villain on the level of Hannibal Lector, unfortunately every season after is a little bit worse with the last two being pretty infuriating. Stop after first.

Mr.Inbetween – a really awesome Australian import focusing on a single father for hire fixer who’s trying to get back into the dating game while dealing with his colorful “business” associates. Super binge-worthy show as episodes are only like a half hour with only six eps a season.

Ozark – It’s Breaking Bad with hillbillys, and nearly as addictive.

Peaky Blinders – arguably the best drama on Netflix, London based organized crime post WWI leading into a movie (after the upcoming final season) which may be set during WW2.

Pushing Daisies – quirky lighthearted mystery show in the vein of The Addams Family, if the Addams Family was bright and cheery about a pie baker who has the ability to bring the dead back to life with one touch, and back to death with another. Problems arise when he resurrects a gal he falls for.

Snowfall – a look at the drug trade of the 80’s through the eyes of the CIA, Mexican, and South Central characters. So far it’s been a more compelling fleshed out version of Scarface.

The Son – short lived western show involving multiple generations of a Texas oil baron family starring Pierce Brosnan after Sam Neill backed out of the lead role. The show probably would’ve been better with Neill, Brosnan’s accent is pretty spotty. also, the Mexican gal in the show looks more like Jake Gyllenhaal than Jake’s actual sister.

The Strain – so dumb, but so fucking fun. Zombie vampires with snakes that come out their mouths. Zombie Vampire SWAT teams. Cool WW2 backstory. A kid actor you will hate and root for his death with a passion.

Taboo – Great period piece where Tom Hardy does his damn thing a long missing British sailor who returns home to reclaim his inheritance and get his shipping operation up and running. There was supposed to be a second season, but homeskillet’s schedule has been stacked.

Yellowstone – kinda dumb but watchable modern day western soap opera from Cormack McCarthy which isn’t nearly as good as his movies which are usually top level affairs.

Posting again as the forum apparently ate it…

If anyone actually thinks Disney will kill a character that’s their creation, a character that’s super over with the normies and one of the few cash cows they still have in terms of merchandising, not to mention someone they could pimp for 800 years of canonical storylines or more, they’re either dumb or didn’t pay attention when we were told not all of Luke’s students died when Kylo went apeshit.

Some followed him (and were killed), but that doesn’t mean Baby Yoda won’t be revealed to be sitting off to the side of Luke and Artoo when he’s mourning the loss of what he built in the flashback we were shown. I Imagine the first chapter of the eventual Chronicles of Grogu film series (you know it’s coming) will show Luke taking him back to Mando, the leader of the restored Mandalore for safe keeping until he can join Rey, Finn, and Broom Kid to further his training.

As far as the finale goes, another great episode in a season of great episodes, I think 3-4 shows running in the same continuity might be a bit much next year though. Hopefully they’ll announce exactly what “Book of Boba Fett” will be next week. Season 3 of Mando? Another series? A limited series? A D+ movie? Whatever the case, hope they can keep the quality up and not CW it.

My only complaint is not having Sebastian Stan take over the role of Luke if they couldn’t CG his face half as good as some of the random joes on YouTube with lesser tech. Disney REALLY needs to call Trey Parker to Sassy Justice-up Luke, Leia, Tarkin, Solo’s Aldenreich & Glover, as well as Jeff Bridges in Tron 2. It’s embarrassing they got all that money, and that’s the quality stuff they put out. That god damned ReFace phone app even delivers better results.

Really looking forward to seeing revelations to the mysteries thaty’ve sat up such as… Who got Grogu out of the Jedi Temple on Conruscant during Order 66? Was he being guarded by Hondo’s men in Chapter One of Mando? How did he survive the “massacre” at Luke’s school? Oh, and most importantly… WHY THE FUCKING HELL DID BOBA WAIT FIVE GOD DAMNED YEARS TO GET HIS ARMOR BACK AND TAKE OUT BIB FOR TUNA?!

Star Wars is back, baby. Haven’t been this excited for the series since 1999 before I was letdown by TPM.

In reply to: CW is woke trash

Hello Jason685, thank you for your reply. I am glad that you have a different opinion from mine about the CW. With that being said, in my personal opinion, the CW is woke trash now. I enjoyed Arrow on the CW last year but the other shows like the Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman are trash to me currently. Here is what I have to say about each show and why I quit watching them.

After they killed off Rip Hunter and Firestorm, then I was done with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow because it became a time travelling parody of its former self after Season 3. Just like Roas with Riverdale, I watched the Flash for five seasons, but Nora West-Allen killed the Flash for me along with her mother, Iris West-Allen. I stopped watching Supergirl midway through Season 2 because of woke SJWs messaging. I watched all eight seasons of Arrow because of Stephen Amell as the Green Arrow. Hopefully, we all can find better live-action shows outside of the CW.

In other words, you can continue to enjoy the CW. Nevertheless, I am tried of wasting my time with the channel due to the fact that the Flash is not the Flash anymore. It is the Iris and friends show with “the Flash” in name only. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was good for two seasons but Firestorm and Rip Hunter kept it grounded and were gone by season 3. Supergirl and Batwoman were always woke trash but I thought to give them both a chance…and it failed for me miserably. I appreciate your contribution to this discussion though.

Personally I love the first 3 seasons of Arrow. I hate S4. I like some of S5, s6, S7, and S8 when it is not focusing on Olicity… I don’t think Arrow ever became woke garbage though. I loved the first 3 seasons of The Flash almost as much as Arrow. S4 was when the show started becoming trash.. it wasn’t for woke reasons in my opinion.. S5 is my least favorite season it was almost unwatchable and made me angry ever week. S6 was a slight improvement but not by much. The only enjoyable parts of S5 and S6 for me was Ralph but now he is cancelled so I guess the show will suck even more in S7. Supergirl, Legends, and Batwoman are woke garbage.. I somehow watched 3 season of Legends and 2 seasons of Supergirl. I basically just laughed at them the entire time because they were so bad.

Hi THZ_1138, your experience with the CW sounds very similar to mine. I wanted to like the CW because it was a channel full of superhero shows starting with Smallville. Unfortunately, as the shows progresses from season to season, the writers went away from the source material in DC comics and instead created their own fanfictions of how superheroes would be and act in modern society. Therefore, as mentioned previously, once Arrow was done I was out. However, Arrow was too much like Batman, Flash listens too much to Iris and his support staff of Harrison Wells, Cisco, and Caitlin, Supergirl is female SJW Superman, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is a parody of time traveling shows such as Doctor Who currently.
