My Early Christmas Gift, A NINTENDO SWITCH OLED and GAMES HAUL.
Are you looking for a gift for that Boomer Gamer in your life but don’t know what to get him? Chances are, he grew up with a Nintendo of some sort. All you have to do is ask him, “Hey Boomer, did you like Mario when you were roaming with the Dinosaurs?” if he says Yes, get him a Nintendo Switch. Right now Game Stop Canada (not sponsored) has a holiday bundle: Nintendo Switch OLED with Smash Bros Ultimate with 3 months of Nintendo online which will give him access to NES, SNES & GameBoy games plus discounts & online play all for 450$ or non OLED with Mario Kart Ultimate (that’s the 1 I wanted but they did not have it with the OLED) for 400$ Use code Giggavega to get 0% discount, sweet deal huh? You could even get it for people that like to pretend to be gamers, like Girls, they can play with Princess Peach lol (relax, I’m probably joking) I’ve been playing Playstation & Xbox games for so long, I forgot what it was like to hear “WAHOO!” “It’s A-Me, Super Mario!” “Let’s A-Go!” It was so good to play such purely fun games.
At least with official Nintendo Licensed games we don’t have to worry about any ESG Bullshivism. The switch is region free So even if they start forcing ESG garbage into their Western versions, you can always just buy the Japanese version & hope there is either an English dub with Yong Yea or at least English subtitles. I’m not going to get into the whole Square Enix ESG BS right now.
So to end on a positive note, here are the 3 games I got: Super Mario RPG (I’ll include my gameplay in a reply) Super Mario Odyssey & Super Smash Bros Ultimate (bundled with the Nintendo Switch Oled) My next Mario Purchase will be Mario Kart because YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT! Then Bayonetta 2 & 3 followed by the first Switch Zelda game & maybe Metroid Dread. Man, honestly, I haven’t been this exited to play games in YEARS!
Come back for more games & Nintendo stuff soon. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas & Thank YOU for watching.
While this thread is about Don Bluth’s films, I just want to announce something.
In my opinion, Don Bluth is like Hayo Miyazaki; the last of the dead art hand drawn animation stylist. His last movie was Titan A.E. and it was awesome, but there’s so much I haven’t seen. He came to my home town in El Paso which I had no idea, is the same he grew up in or was born in, I can’t remember. Anyway, got the honor to meet him and its been 12 years since he did anything and its been hard for him. He has a university in Arizona that teaches hand drawn art and animation. I talked to somebody there asking about his latest project he’s been wanting to do for 30 years; his dream called Dragon’s Lair. If you remember the arcade back then, you should be familiar with the idea. He did an Indiegogo campaign and it made a good amount of money, like $700,000 dollars, it wasn’t even close to his goal to make the movie, like $35 million is what I’m told he needs to make the movie. He was only able to do pitch ideas. They look amazing but nobody would fund his project. Covid hit and they couldn’t continue during the lockdowns which was a major blow but even so, he contacted many companies, MGM, Sony, etc. Nobody was willing to pay that much for it. So rather than dropping the project, he decided to offer something and I can understand if its to get somewhere. Anyway, I saw an article I think and it asked if the movie should be 3D animation and I voted no because it would defeat the purpose of it being a Don Bluth film. Its nothing without his magic. So instead of either, Netflix will be making a live action of Dragon’s Lair. Don’t know when it’ll happen but that’s what we’re getting. I fear and said it’ll bomb big time but I could be wrong, as long as its not woke or even a mediocre film. What feels so hard to reach is something I want to help Don achieve before he passes away; one last good ol’ fashion classic hand drawn 2D animated film and that’s Dragon’s Lair. It is such a long shot and it may not happen but I at least will try with cryptocurrency trading as best I can. I’d be lucky to have Elon Musk donate half the money needed for the film.
Anime is the biggest trend in cartoons that isn’t woke and Hayo Miyazaki is going strong with his legendary work of hand drawn animation, I would like to have what we used to have years ago return. I don’t want hand drawn 2D art to die. Anyone interested in learning and keeping the concept going, see if you’re interested in attending to Don Bluth’s University. But in the meantime, let’s reflect on his amazing movies. I haven’t seen it all but I remember Sword in the Stone a long time ago along with An American Tail and The Land Before Time. Not too long ago, my town hosted Secret of Nymh in the theater and it was amazing. I remember Titan A.E. and that was his last work but it was pretty awesome as well. I haven’t seen The Black Cauldron and I’m sure there’s more. But please share your experiences, memories, recommendation and what you would like to see rise up from Don Bluth’s magic. I’d like to see the Zelda series made in 2D animation. It’d be like Sword in the Stone vibe.
Alright, so when I see folks talk about or make videos on the top 5 or top 10 NES titles, Crystalis sometimes gets overlooked, whilst considering the fact that it is factually a superior game to Zelda. Before you grab the pitch forks, let me explain. I like Zelda and Crystalis, they’re both easily top five NES. I owned both as a kid even. But if we do a realistic break down comparison, Crystalis wins head to head.
1. Graphics – While graphics aren’t everything, as we all well know, Crystalis offered more sprite by sprite textures than Zelda did.
2. Movement- Crystalis had 8 directional movement, while Zelda only had 4. In say a turn based game, that doesn’t matter, but in the realms of action RPGs, added movement is added freedom.
3. Bigger World – The world of Crystalis not only looked but also felt bigger than Zelda. It didn’t feel like panels on a grid, but had more of an open feel over all that made exploration more rewarding as well as more fluid, without the need for transitions.
4. More Characters – Self explanatory. More characters added immersion and bulked up the stakes when it comes to the “save the world” plot. It’s hard to care much for a world with only 3 named characters (Zelda, Gannon and Link) versus one with entire villages and cultures at risk from the villainous schemes. I mean really, what am I protecting in Zelda other than the princess and some old, rusty hermits living under bushes?
5. Consequences – Characters actually died in Crystalis, so the weight of the situation had more substantial pull to it.
6. Music – The Legend of Zelda has memorable music and the nostalgia factor behind it, granted. However, by comparison, Crystalis not only had more tracks than Zelda, but most of them were actually quite good. And they were full songs too, not just 30-40 second loops, for the most part.
7. Epic Mount – You can ride and fight on the back of a dolphin in Crystalis. Nuff said.
8. Trail Blazers – SNK, the company who made Crystalis, pushed the NES hardware to it’s limits, a daring move which, when it all came together paid off big time.
In conclusion, Zelda was a little easier to get into, had the popularity factor and a pimp gold cartridge. But with all that being said, in the side by side UFC stats chart, Crystalis wins, bar none. So while I think Zelda does deserve a place in the NES top 5 for sure, if Zelda is 2 for instance, Crystalis should and will forever be number 1. At the least, in this man’s book.
PS Before anyone mentions it, yes I’m aware that Crystalis was made four years after Zelda, but I stand where I stand.
Thanks for reading, let me know what you all think.
