Snyder Cut of Justice League to Release on HBO MAX

First, we learned that Tom Cruise is going to space. Then Nicolas Cage was cast as Joe Exotic. Now the Snyder Cut is a reality. On Zack Snyder’s Vero watch-along for Man of Steel, the director announced that at the Snyder Cut – now known as Zack Snyder’s Justice League – will premiere in 2021 on HBO Max. Furthermore, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder explained that bringing his cut of Justice League to the fans has been in the works since November, with a screening for Warner Bros. executives occurring in February, in part so they could decide how much work needed to be done (which amounted to roughly 20 million dollars). In addition, the Snyders were excited about giving post-production houses some work during the pandemic.

I’ve never been so happy for a film director, or a fandom. I’ve always been fascinated by lost visions, whether it’s James Cameron’s Spider-Man, George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal, or Iron Giant writer Tim McCanlies’ Bruce Wayne TV pilot. When Justice League essentially became another movie because Snyder had to step away due to his daughter’s death, I was disappointed for the filmmaker, as he deserved to see his vision through to the end. Despite various claims about the Snyder Cut not existing and it being written off as utter nonsense, I always had a feeling there was something here, especially after Jason Momoa’s and Kevin Smith’s comments about the film. At the very least, I thought they should do a special charity screening in memory of Snyder’s daughter. I’m glad to see that it looks like all the people who wanted to see Snyder’s vision were completely justified. I’m not expecting it to be the second coming of Citizen Kane, but I’m so curious to see what Snyder had in mind for the next chapter in his DC saga. Here’s hoping it’ll be worth the wait.
