Yesterday was the third and final day of Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, and we have all the news for you right here. This whole convention seems to have been an exercise in diminishing returns, so there isn’t a ton to cover today. Let’s get right into it.
The biggest news to come out of Star Wars Celebration Day 3 is likely the announcement of the next Star Wars Celebration. I like one (1) of the things they announced yesterday, but none of these projects are likely to make waves. Star Wars Celebration 2027 will bring the convention back to California, specifically taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. From April 1st- 4th, 2027, this event will mark the first time since 2006 that LA has hosted a Star Wars Celebration.
Star Wars: Visions Season 3 was announced by its directors. This season is 100% anime like season 1. Season 2 adopted a more global production, featuring episodes from South Africa, America, the UK, Spain, Korea, and other countries. But the show is returning to its Japanese roots, and with some of the original studios, namely Trigger and Studio IG. This season will include a sequel to “The Ninth Jedi” from the first season, titled “Child of Hope.” “The Ninth Jedi” is also getting its own spin-off series on Disney+. Visions season 3 premieres on October 29th, 2025. Kenji Kamiyama, writer/director of the original “The Ninth Jedi” short, offered some more details:
“I made a short story called ‘The Ninth Jedi’ during Volume 1,” said Kamiyama. “Director Shiotani is making one more film this time [“Child of Hope”], and it ends with Kara’s departure to look for her father in the first short film.”
Star Wars: Visions season 1, episode 5, “The Ninth Jedi” features lightsabers that change color depending on one’s Force, according to Kamiyama, and that Kara’s father invented these lightsabers and has been kidnapped.
“What in the world was the reason for such lightsabers,” Kamiyama continues. “I think it will be a story where those secrets will be told.”
Kamiyama will be the supervising director on Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi.

And that’s it; that was Star Wars Celebration 2025. I almost can’t believe how bare-bones this convention was, but then I remember it’s modern-day Lucasfilm we’re talking about. Even if they had announced more stuff, it just would have been eventually canceled anyway.
I’m eagerly awaiting season 3 of Visions, which has ranged from decent to excellent. “The Ninth Jedi” was one of the best episodes of season 1 and one of the most popular, too. So I’m not surprised they’re continuing it, although it’s weird to dedicate an episode of season 3 to doing so if they’re already making a spin-off show. I would prefer the main show’s season to focus on new characters and stories, especially since “The Ninth Jedi” will carry on elsewhere. I’ll watch both shows, and this is by far the best announcement to come out of day 3; this is just an odd choice.
I wish I felt more strongly about the other announcements, but I also wish there were more to talk about in the first place. I can’t afford to go to Disney World, and I don’t know if that will ever be realistic for me. And even if I went, Galaxy’s Edge isn’t on my radar because it sounds really lame and heavily focused on the sequels. Likewise, I can’t go to Star Wars Celebration, even if it’s in California; that’s across the country from me. I’ve never played Fortnite, so I have no insight into it, and ILM is awesome, but I’m hardly an expert on that, either. Aside from the Visions news, the cosplayers are genuinely the best-looking thing to come out of Star Wars Celebration Day 3. Disney and Lucasfilm are not very in touch with their consumers; they don’t know where they live or what reasonable costs are. I don’t mean to sound whiny, and I don’t care about missing Celebration if this is all they can muster.
But what do you think about any or all of the announcements? Let us know in the comments below!
