Summer Game Fest 2025

This weekend is Summer Game Fest 2025, the yearly event showcasing upcoming video game releases that effectively became the replacement for E3. Last night was the main show, hosted by Geoff Keighley, which delivered a ton of trailers for highly-anticipated games and newly announced projects. You can watch the entire Summer Game Fest showcase below:

Or you can watch the individual trailers:

Mortal Shell II

Whoa! This looks fantastic, with amazing graphics and what looks like fun gameplay. The character designs are incredible, with the various monsters all looking different but still like they belong in the same dark world. Credit where it’s due, this was the perfect way to start off Summer Game Fest. Mortal Shell II will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Steam sometime in 2026, but you can wishlist it now.

Fortnite Event: Death Star Sabotage

I guess it’s a Star Wars Fortnite event involving a battle with the Death Star. I can’t tell if this is supposed to be the Battle of Yavin or just some random conflict. It looks cool enough, although an off-the-rails Darth Vader AI would make it even better. This will begin  today, June 7, at 2:00 PM Eastern.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Designer Hideo Kojima introduced this clip from Death Stranding 2, which will be available for the PlayStation 5 on June 26,2025. Supposedly, it has something to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, but I think more on a thematic level.

Chronicles: Medieval

It’s hard to tell what the game will be like because the only gameplay shown is what appears to be the lull before a battle (why would they show that?), but some research says Chronicles: Medieval is a sandbox game where you get involved in “large-scale battles” to choose your path as a knight. Narrated by Tom Hardy! The trailer doesn’t give a release date, but it will be available for early access on Steam in 2026, which you can wishlist now.

Sonic Racing: Crossworlds

The latest game in a series that is basically Sonic the Hedgehog version of Mario Kart. If you like those, I guess it looks good. It will have online cross-platform play as well, so you and your friends won’t be limited by your system of choice. Sonic Racing: Crossworlds will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 25, 2025, with a Switch 2 release sometime later. There’s also something about a Minecraft game at the end, but it doesn’t say much.

Code Vein II

Here’s another fun one, from the looks of it. More action, cool monster designs, portents of doom. Code Vein II will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|SM, and Steam in 2026 and can be wishlisted now.

End of Abyss

This is an action horror game with a girl armed with a pistol and trying to survive a horde of creatures as she investigates a some creepy facility. There’s excellent atmosphere in the trailer, and the top-down perspective makes the character feel more isolated. End of Abyss will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Game Store in 2026 and can be wishlisted now.

Mouse: P.I. for Hire

This looks like a lot of fun. It’s a detective story told in rubber hose animation, with Troy Baker voicing the main character, a P.I. named Jack Pepper, fighting organized crime in an animated world. Mouse: P.I. for Hire will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam sometime later this year, but it’s available to wishlist now.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros

Oh, this is a great idea! It looks like a sort of alternate version of Game of Thrones where you can craft the ending to your liking, which may be the most genius marketing hook of all time. Imagine taking a show as popular as Game of Thrones, which has an ending I don’t think anybody actually liked – or even found tolerable – and allowing fans to change it. There’s a reason they chose to have the trailer feature Jon Snow fighting the Night King, something everyone wanted to see but missed out on in the name of subverting expectations. But the twist with the Night King killing Jon and turning him into a White Walker is meant to tell you that you’re in control and can do whatever wacky thing you want (if I’m understanding this right). Game of Thrones: War for Westeros appears to be available only for PC gaming and will come out sometime next year, but you can wishlist it on Steam now.

Atomic Heart II

A sci-fi first-person shooter that looks like it could be fun. (I never played the first one, to which this is apparently a “spiritual successor,” so I’m just going by the trailer.) Using a Queen song may be cheap and exploitative, but you can’t help but smile. The graphics are great, and I love the multitude of robots, aliens, and assorted creatures. Atomic Heart II will be available for “PC and consoles” at some undetermined point, as it’s still in development, but you can wishlist it now.

The Cube

Like Atomic Heart II, The Cube comes from developer Mundfish and is set in the Atomic universe. This is an RPG shooter with still more cool-looking characters, like that biker guy with an eagle’s head. The gameplay is set on a massive cube that is constantly rotating and shifting like a Rubix Cube, and the gameplay shifts along with it. The Cube also has no release date yet, but it will be available on consoles and PC and can be wishlisted now.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

As I said in March for the Nintendo Direct, I can’t wait for this game! A retro beat-em-up action game from Tribute Games, the studio behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge (which I loved), featuring Marvel superheroes teaming up to fight Annihilus and his evil forces is right up my alley. This trailer reveals two more playable characters: Rocket Raccoon and She-Hulk; they join the already-announced Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Venom, Nova, Storm, and Phyla-Vell. I really hope She-Hulk isn’t taking the place of the Incredible Hulk, because that would be a shame. I caught some more details in this trailer, like the Daily Bugle issues in the background depicting Spider-Man as a menace and Sauron as an enemy in what I assume is the Savage Land. And is that Thanos in the background? Marvel Cosmic Invasion will arrive on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam at Christmastime 2025.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

I remember this from February’s Sony State of Play. It still looks amazing, especially now that they’re showing off some of the more fantastical elements.  Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in 2026, but you can wishlist it now.

Felt That: Boxing

What if Rocky were a muppet? That’s the premise of Felt That: Boxing, a game where you play a wannabe boxing champ made of felt and go through training before stepping in the ring with… I don’t know, Gonzo or something. The trailer is funny in places, and this game looks more like it was made for a laugh than anything else; that’s fine, but it doesn’t interest me much. Felt That: Boxing will be available on Steam at an undetermined date and can be wishlisted now.

Killer Inn

This one is a murder mystery action game where you can be either a “lamb” or a “wolf,” solving a murder in a castle by either identifying suspects or killing your way to the truth based on your character choice. It looks interesting, and I can’t be the only one who thought of the Wolf, Ram, and Hart when looking at the castle’s artwork. Killer Inn will have a closed beta on Steam soon, but there’s no other release information available yet.

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders is a sci-fi action game, but since there’s no gameplay in the trailer, it’s hard to tell what the game will be like. The cinematics, while great-looking, don’t impress much after the excellent ones that came before it. ARC Raiders will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on October 30, 2025, and can be wishlisted now.

Dune Awakening

A Dune game that was clearly inspired by the Denis Villeneuve movies. I like those films, but this trailer does nothing for me. Dune Awakening will launch on June 10, 2025, on PC, but early access is available on Steam now.

Chrono Odyssey

This is yet another sci-fi/fantasy action game, but like most of the others at Summer Game Fest 2025, it looks great and distinct from the others that have been showcased. I’m really impressed so far. Chrono Odyssey will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. There’s no release date yet, but you can join a playtest on Steam from June 20-22.

Mio: Memories in Orbit

This one is a platformer where you traverse the innards of a giant ship trying to “wake its memories.” The animation is stunning, but it doesn’t look like my cup of coffee. Mio: Memories in Orbit will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC at an unspecified date, but you can play the demo now on Steam and Xbox PC.

Out of Words

Out of Words is a platformer using stop-motion animation in which two kids explore a decrepit city. Again, I love the animation (which was done by hand!), but the game itself doesn’t look all that fun to me. Out of Words will arrive on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Game Store in 2026, but you can wishlist it now.

Mafia: The Old Country

This trailer doesn’t have any gameplay, so you only get some of the story via cinematics, which looks like standard mob movie fare. I played the first Mafia game, and it was okay; the controls were a nightmare. Maybe they’ve gotten better since then. Mafia: The Old Country is coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on August 8, 2025, and you can pre-order it now to get the Soldato Pack, which comes with special outfits, weapons, and horses.

LEGO Voyagers

It’s a LEGO game where you build stuff. Swell. I’ve never understood the appeal of the LEGO games. Isn’t the point of LEGOs building something yourself? Why would you want to do that in a video game? But they’re really popular, so what do I know? LEGO Voyagers will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, but no release date is given.

Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny

This is a fantasy adventure game with a bunch of Nickelodeon characters, with only Spongebob Squarepants being showcased in this trailer. Something tells me this will feature cartoons that came out after my Nickelodeon days, but it’s probably fun for people who grew up on Spongebob and whoever else shows up. Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny will be released in the fall of 2025 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Lies of P: Overture

This is a DLC for Lies of P, a game where you play as Pinocchio fighting evil puppets. That sounds ridiculously stupid, but the gameplay looks amazing, and I love some of these creature designs; that old man spider thing at the beginning looks like Krampus from the Michael Dougherty movie. Lies of P: Overture is available now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Fractured Blooms

I guess this is some kind of horror game. It’s hard to tell from the trailer. Fractured Blooms has no release information, but you can wishlist it now on Steam.

Jurassic World Evolution 3

The most interesting part of this trailer was Jeff Goldblum narrating it. How do you make a Jurassic Park game look this boring? Jurassic World Evolution 3 will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on October 21, 2025, and you can pre-order it now.

Mina the Hollower

This is another retro game – very retro, as in early 8-bit. It looks like fun if you want to go back that far. Mina the Hollower will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 31, 2025, but you can play the demo on Steam now.

Deadpool VR

It’s just what it says it is: a Deadpool VR game, and it looks like a ton of fun, with characters like Azazel and Omega Red turning up and Deadpool being voiced by the legen… wait for it… dary Neil Patrick Harris. As such, it is, of course, only available to the three or four people who own a Meta Quest 3 or 3S. Wade says it best: “Spider-Man gets Insomniac, and I get this shit?” Oh, well, another one bites the dust. Love the song choice in the trailer, though. Deadpool VR will be released in late 2025.

Dying Light: The Beast

This is a first-person shooter where you fight zombie-monster-type-deals, the products of experiments by some mad scientist called the Baron. The graphics are terrific, and I like the variety of killing options. Dying Light: The Beast will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on August 22, 2025, and is available for pre-order now.

Mixtape

A coming-of-age story as a video game. I don’t get this one. Mixtape will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC sometime in 2025.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree

This is a roguelike adventure RPG drawn in anime style. It doesn’t do much for me, but it looks great. Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on September 19, 2025.

Acts of Blood

An action game where a bunch of guys in shorts, jeans, and hoodies slowly beat each other up. This looks cheap and repetitive. Acts of Blood will be available in the summer of 2026, and you can wishlist it on Steam now.

Scott Pilgrim EX

Another one from Tribute Games, Scott Pilgrim EX doesn’t interest me as much as Shredder’s Revenge or Marvel Cosmic Invasion, but that’s mostly because I don’t care about Scott Pilgrim. The game itself looks great, a beat-em-up in the same vein as the other two, and I wish Tribute Games all the best. (I love that one of the evil gangs is called the Vegans.) Scott Pilgrim EX will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steamin “20X5,” which I assume means 2025.

Hitman World of Assassination – Le Chiffre

This is a new mission for Hitman: World of Assassination, a sort of update and omnibus of the first three Hitman games. Agent 47 will be sent after Le Chiffre, the evil banker villain from Casino Royale, and he’ll again be played by Mads Mikkelson. It’s a neat idea for a new assassination and one that will undoubtedly have a bunch of interesting possible solutions. The Le Chiffre mission will be available from June 6 to July 6.

LEGO Party!

Another LEGO game. Whatever. At least this one has more inventive challenges than just building stuff with LEGOs. LEGO Party! will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in 2025, and you can wishlist it now.

Wildgate

Wildgate is a sci-fi first-person shooter that looks very cartoony, which doesn’t appeal to me. More for kids who want to dip their toes into FPS games. Wildgate will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on July 24, 2025, with an open beta from June 9-16.

Blighted

Blighted is an RPG adventure fantasy game with very nice animation. It looks more fun than I thought it would during the cinematics section. Blighted has no release information, but you can wishlist it on Steam now.

ILL

A first-person survival horror game, ILL is creepy to the core, with shockingly realistic zombies and some horrific imagery. ILL will be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam; there’s no release date yet, but you can wishlist it now.

Mecha BREAK

An action sci-fi game where you control mechs, Mecha BREAK looks fast and fun, but nothing to write home about. This will be available for Xbox Series X|S and Steam on July 1, 2025, and you can wishlist it now.

Infinitesimals

In this one, you play as tiny people flying in tiny robots fighting other tiny robots and spiders and stuff. It doesn’t look all that interesting. Infinitesimals will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store in 2026, and you can wishlist it now.

Street Fighter 6 Season 3

That intro was weird and unnecessary, but the small snippet of gameplay from Street Fighter 6 looks very cool. It’s been forever since I’ve played one of these games, but the graphics update is awesome. Street Fighter 6 years 1-2 are available now, and… I don’t know, I think year 3 is coming at some point, but the trailer is confusing.

Last Flag

This is a capture-the-flag game with goofy graphics. It feels like a kids’ game. Last Flag has no release information, but you can wishlist it on Steam now.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

This is a beautiful-looking action fantasy game with samurai-style combat. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on July 24, 2025, and you can pre-order it now.

Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver

There’s very little gameplay in this trailer for the upcoming action RPG, but it looks like it’ll have stylish animation and fast combat. Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver can be wishlisted now on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Into the Unwell

An alley cat is thrown into a fantasy world where he has to fight through anthropomorphic pizza and bottles to get sober… at least, that’s what I got out of this trailer. The animation is great, but I’m not sure it’s for me. Into the Unwell doesn’t have any release information yet, but you can wishlist it and sign up for the closed beta on Steam.

Splitgate 2

Splitgate 2 appears to be FPS-as-sport, which looks kind of silly to me. Splitgate 2 is free to play now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Stranger Than Heaven

I have no idea what’s going on in this trailer; it looks like a sort of detective story mixed with some kind of fantasy set in 1940s Japan. There’s no information on the game’s release.

Resident Evil: Requiem

I’ve never been into the Resident Evil games, so I’m not as excited by this as I’m sure many others are. But it looks suitably creepy, so I’m sure fans are happy. Resident Evil: Requiem will be available on February 27, 2026, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

I have to say, I’m very impressed with Summer Game Fest 2025. Not everything is my kind of game, but there were a lot of great trailers for games I’d love to play. And while I’m not a big Resident Evil fan, that was a great way to end the show. I hope everyone else enjoyed it, too!
