Supernatural Star Jenson Ackles Addresses Conflict with Jared Padalecki

On June 24th of last year, Deadline shocked Supernatural fans worldwide with an exclusive stating that a Supernatural prequel was in pre-production at the CW. The Winchesters brings back Jenson Ackles, star of Supernatural, Rust, and The Boys Season 3, to narrate this prequel. Ackles is also fulfilling the role of executive producer alongside his wife, Danneel Ackles, at their newly founded production company, Chaos Machine Productions. This news surprised everyone, most believing the door to the world of Supernatural had been shut forever. Even Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki was stunned by this revelation, taking to Twitter to tweet:

Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

This tweet spurred a whole slew of outrage directed at Ackles for his supposed slight against his once-brother Padalecki. Since then, the hatchet has appeared to have been buried by the two Supernatural alums, yet no word was ever publicly released as to how that resolution was achieved. That was, until January 20th of this year, when Ackles appeared on the Inside of You podcast to give his side of the story.

Ackles Padalecki

Ackles stated that he fell prey to the classic Hollywood superstition of never speaking of a project until the ink is dry, so to speak, for fear of jinxing it. The Winchesters was barely more than a dream when Deadline published their article. The scripts had not yet been written, and the deal was not even fully confirmed. Ackles further elaborated that he fully intended to tell Padalecki first thing when he knew the project was for sure, but Deadline forced his hand. He had to deal with the press and the fallout from this revelation before he could fill in his friend on the situation.

Once he explained his side to Padalecki, Ackles confirmed that his former co-star understood completely and apologized for overreacting. These two, known for their onscreen brotherly relationship, share a similar bond in real life and have the same struggles as anyone that close.

The Winchesters will follow John and Mary Winchester, Ackles and Padalecki ’s characters’ parents, along the love story that began their union and created the boys destined to save the world. The first scripts have been written, as confirmed by Ackles in his Inside of You interview. However, no official announcements have been made by the CW or Warner TV on when this prequel will begin production or when it will be released. Fans will have to wait and see if this new addition to the Supernatural lore lives up to the hype and the drama surrounding its production.

I love the supernatural series even though it’s pretty much the same story every freaking season. I have zero desire to see a prequel about their parents. Would rather see more about the origins of the Men of Letters or something. The brotherhood of Sam and Dean is what made the show. You don’t see that kind of relationship building anymore in stories.
