The Batman is Getting a Sequel

Robert Pattinson will be stepping into his rinky-dink sporting equipment that slightly resembles something approaching Batman again, as Warner Bros. announced a sequel to The Batman last night at CinemaCon. Matt Reeves will write and direct once again, with Pattinson returning to play Bruce Wayne/Batman. No other information was revealed. (While a scene towards the end of The Batman would seem to hint at the sequel’s villain, Reeves has said this is not the case.)

This should come as a surprise to no one since The Batman made a ton of money and has been lighting up HBO Max since it landed on the streaming service. In fact, its success is one of the main reasons why Warner Bros. is now considering releasing Batgirl in theaters, as opposed to sending it straight to streaming. It also seems to be well-liked, with 85% and 87% critic and audience scores, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. Even the Penguin is getting his own spinoff series. I wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Bros. fast-tracks this one.
