The Boys Spin-Off Signs Agent Carter Show Runners

Amazon has ordered a spin-off series of The Boys with Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas of Marvel’s Agent Carter as showrunners. The pair are replacing Craig Rosenberg, who exited the project due to creative differences with Amazon and Sony Pictures TV. The new show will take place in America’s sole college for superheroes.  Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shane Paul McGhie, Aimee Carrero, Reina Hardesty, and Maddie Phillips will portray the young superheroes. Butters and Fazekas will serve as executive producers along with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, and Michaela Starr. Check out Kripke’s statement here:

“Much like Mork & Mindy spun off from Happy Days — which is an insane and true fact — our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe, yet have a tone and style all its own. It’s our take on a college show, with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated and sometimes deadly Young Supes. Michele and Tara are stone-cold geniuses, we’re thrilled to have them steer this ship, and grateful to Sony and Amazon for the opportunity. We love this show and can’t wait for you to see it. Also, Baywatch Nights spun off from Baywatch, and it had vampires. Vampires!”

Personally, I find this a particularly strange pitch for a TV series. I usually don’t like college movies and series (not that I’ve seen every one), and I’m not sure The Boys warrants a spin-off. I like the cynical corporate world of the show; it mirrors our own in funny and chilling ways. But, to me, there’s nothing that screams, “I need more of this,” and in fact, turning this particular series into a franchise smacks of oblivious irony. I’m not familiar with any of the actors attached, but I liked Agent Carter a lot when it was on TV. I may check out the spin-off show when it comes out, but it depends on how it looks once we know more. I’m far more excited about the third season of the main show.
