Last November I bought a game from a company I used to like. I gave a review on their own forums about the game being good but not liking the DRM they use as it can keep legitimate paying customers from playing the game. In addition anyone playing the game has to always be logged on to their online account with the company in order to start a new single player game. I had some free time this past Sunday and was going to play the game again. I couldn’t. I had bought and installed the game on my computer but for some reason my online account in their DRM system was deleted. I filed a complaint with Paypal, the purchasing option I had used, and provided a copy of the PDF receipt the game company emailed me. I explained I had already purchased the game and installed it on my computer and I already used the serial key provided to me. The game did work but now, less than 6 months later, my account setup through that gaming company’s DRM system no longer existed so I could no longer play it even though it was legitimately installed on my computer. PayPal sent me a message they are providing a full refund! :)

I should have explained a little better. I wanted to post a screenshot to show I wasn’t talking trash and to provide proof but it seems I can’t post photos at the moment. I should have chosen a better title. I’m not against DRM but I am against ridiculous levels of DRM that make it so paying customers can’t play the game they bought. Paypal is not in the habit of just taking customers words for whatever they say. They do require proof of contact with the seller and do investigate claims.
