When asked on Tuesday whether China had asked the United States to return the debris from the downed balloon, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the balloon belonged to China.

“This balloon is not American. The Chinese government will continue to defend its legitimate rights and interests,” she said at a regular presser.

So, does that mean all those stolen IPs, and all those counterfeit products being made by the CCP will be return and all moneys made off them will be returned to the rights holder?

    no?

The balloon debris is scattered in waters that are about 15 metres deep, but stretch across an area 15 football fields long and 15 football fields across…

So it can be easily recovered, studied, etc.

The head of U.S. Northern Command, Gen. Glen VanHerck, said Monday the teams were taking precautions to safeguard against the chance any part of the balloon was rigged with explosives.

    OK, so not that easy.

Imagine all of this hullabaloo over a freakin’ balloon. There are so many questions about this that remain unanswered.

    • How was this thing allowed to go undetected for so long? – This raises serious questions about the US’s defense system.
    • Once determined it was a “spy balloon” why take so long to shoot it down? I don’t buy the excuse of falling debris potentially doing damage for one minute. If it were that serious of a threat they would have neutralized it regardless of the collateral damage.
    • Why shoot it down at all? I mean, surely the military has the capability to bring down such an object in tact. Wouldn’t it have been better to do that, perform a forensic analysis and then keep it as evidence?

Well at least America has shown the world what it’s capable of. Fly a spy balloon into our airspace and after letting it float around for days undetected we’ll send a 5th generation fighter to blow it out of the sky. Take that ya varmints.

According to reports, IIRC, Biden was told of the spy balloon on Tuesday, and he told the military to take it down once it was safe to do so.  They replied back that it was not safe to do so until it was over a non-populated area, hence them waiting till it had cross over the entire continental US.  Even thought I have been told Montana had LOTS of unpopulated territory they could have used to take it down.

If it was not so serious, this whole balloon thing would be a comedy of errors.
