Hm, because almost all good anime are already in some way in those big lists here, I write a few of my favorites from different genres, because even thou I know that Jeremy likes action based shows we all have more than one genres we like:

    – Gankutsuō for people that like the story of the count of Monte Cristo, with stunning visuals.

    – Nichijou if you like comedy that goes the extra mile with even mundance moments. Pani Poni Dash if you like comedy shows with a fuck ton of pop culture references. Gintama goes in the same direction but mostly with references to other anime like Dragon Ball, while Pani Poni Dash is way more diverse.

    – Aria, if you like just wholesome easygoing slice of life to relax your mind.

    – After season 2 is now over I would say Re: Zero is even more of a must watch then before.

    – Definately Cautious Hero for Isekai as well as That time I got reincarnated as a Slime and Konosuba.

    – Perfect Blue for psycho thrillers.

    – Dororo for the feudal Japan period with a big slice of demons with a MC that wants his bodyparts back.

    – MD Geist 1+2 are at least interesting I would say. More of a guilty pleasure of mine.

That should do it for now.

    JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure!

I think the best option would be to make a MyAnimeList account and look through the top rated what would be interesting instead of taking a list of 30+ series, especially as someone new to anime. That’s how I roll at least.

Posting gigantic lists of anime you love isn’t a guarantee that another person will like it.

Anime is very a niche genre with limited appeal outside its demographic. I get why some people would find it weird and and not bother. It is, after all, a product of another country with a different culture and customs.

If I had to recommend any shows to just anyone it would have to be something that already have a bit of a Western flair to it. Cowboy Bebop is still a masterpiece and every episode is like a short movie. The smooth jazz soundtrack, sombre tone and animation production values make it feel like something that might’ve aired on HBO back in the day. Black Lagoon is basically Quentin Tarantino in anime form (I have no doubt Rei Hiroe is likely a big fan of gangster movies). Berserk is peak seinen: The 90’s anime ends on a cliffhanger but from beginning to end it’s a perfect story with a well-rounded supporting cast, and its atmosphere captures the heart and spirit of medieval Europe. Hellsing is also good, bloody fun, if you want something that’s a bit faster-paced and focuses more on action (it’s basically the British vs Nazi vampires, what’s not to like?!).

Ultimately, though, I’m not really bothered if Jeremy doesn’t watch anime. That’s his choice and I can respect it.

But he’s showing interest after watching Attack on Titan and he’s got Akira and something else on mind, thanks to his friends at G&G. The problem is this thread has lists long enough to drive people away.

    @Captain_Cronos Ah.

Fair enough, I admit to not watching some of the latest Geeks & Gamers videos as I’ve been pretty occupied as of late.

I assumed some younger members were just going into fanboy mode again, lol.

I’ll keep it simple and recommend 1 show, 1 movie.

    1 show: Steins;Gate

1 movie: Ghost in the Shell

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (If Star Wars was a Anime series made in Japan,it would be this)

Macross (Don’t watch Robotech,it’s just 3 different shows combined into one just like Voltron. Besides;the dub featured Vic Mignogna as the main character)

Area 88 (about a guy that is forced to fight in a foreign war) watch the ova first, the tv series is a remake. available legally on retrocrush.

Yu Yu Hakusho (about a ghost detective. the series features martial arts)

Bleach (about a guy that becomes substitute soul reaper)

Appleseed (cyberpunk series featuring a badass female character) Watch the first ova series

The Heroic Legend of Arslan (about a prince who fights against invaders that take over his kingdom)

Noragama (about a minor deity and a girl that usually has a out of body experience sometimes)

One Piece (about a dude named Luffy that wants to be King of the Pirates)

Outlaw Star (space western about a ragtag group that looks for this one specific treasure/place in space)

Durarara (supernatural mystery that focuses on some unusual event involving multiple characters)

    Black Cat (bounty hunter series)

Inuyasha (about a girl that falls into a well and time travels to feudal japan, later falls in love with a dog demon)

Dororo (Samurai series by Astro Boy mangaka,Osamu Tezuka)

Gundam Seed (legend has it that the english voice actor got kicked in the balls during one scene)

Initial D (series about drag racing, catchy eurodance theme music)

Ghost in the Shell (classic movie) is a great recommendation for Jeremy and definitely suggest Steins Gate (time travel consequences sci-fi show) as well.  As for old anime…I may suggest either Robotech or Voltron (80s).

i have been reading some of the reply’s here and i hate to admit it maybe i was wrong to make the list so long alot of you all have made good points so i am going to lower the list a bit.

for action/horror i would suggest hellsing ultimate. that series is full of bad ass scenes and it is completed plus it dont have a ton of episodes to watch with it being at 12 episodes. (afterward though i would advise he watch the parody team four star made because well it was funny and good too)

for action along the lines of star wars, firefly i would suggest either cowboy bebop or outlaw star they share alot of themes and like above there aint many episodes to catch up on. i think bebop is 24 and outlaw star is around that also.

for something along the lines of mecha/action, because there isn’t a whole mess of episodes to watch in patlabor, i would have said gundam wing or even IBO but there is so many episodes and lore to catch up on that it might overwhelm someone who is new.

from a gaming perspective Sword art Online, i love the whole death game aspect in season one, and continued to enjoy it as it progressed and it does have alot of episodes and a movie to watch i admit, but it will hook you, plus who doesn’t love asuna queen of the waifus.

and while it probably aint his cup of tea more slice of life with a little action violet evergarden, i know it aint his thing but if he decided to take a chance on something a litle more lowkey then that would be a good place to start.

but let me say in the post i made above i love all those series, but after reading some of the replies and thinking you all were right i did need to lessen it a little and not make it so overwhelming.

I know Jeremy menitioned Ninja Scroll in one video he did recently…and it occurred to me that I forgot to add another classic anime or two to the suggestions: Rurouni Kenshin and InuYasha.

Inuyasha is a show that requires having a chart that navigates you through all the filler of seasons 1-7, so one does not need to watch all 160 episodes, and it was fortunate that Final Act was made to animate the final volumes of the manga to successfully complete it. The 4 movies are also excellent even though they suffer from old school not quite fitting into the general storyline…you can estimate where they land, though. Inuyasha is a great series, but the filler can be annoying and pointless.

Also, fortunately, it has also not been ruined by the sequel series Demon Princesses. Demon Princesses is not that strong a series, but it’s simple and doesn’t stray too far from the Inuyasha formula.

If one is thinking about purchasing Inuyasha seasons 1-7, hold off. At the end of last year they FINALLY started putting it all out on blu ray. They are about a third of the way through right now.
