Berserk

Ah, a thread just for me.

Berserk is one of the best manga ever made. After watching the 97 anime I was convinced that this could be a perfect story and I haven’t been disappointed so far (though the Falcon of the Millennium Empire arc did drag for a bit in places).

The only issue is Miura’s infrequent updates nowadays. I sometimes wonder if he’s just lost passion and/or interest. While we do seem to be headed towards the conclusion, it’d be a shame if he decides to end it quickly so he can move when there’s still a lot left to resolve.

Or maybe someone should just take Idolmaster away from him.

The manga basically has the same story and then picks up from where the Eclipse left off, so knowing how the story continues is a big selling point. In fact, even if you’ve watched the original series a few times, it’s worth starting from the beginning and going through the Golden Age arc again: The anime left out on a number of key events and characters (understandable, given time constraints), some of which are pivotal for later story arcs (the Skull Knight, for good example). The manga is also more explicit in its violent and sexual content – The 97 anime tones things down a bit so it would be more appropriate for broadcast television. It’s worth a look for Muira’s artwork alone: It’s some of the best out there, in all of its visceral horror.

Deluxe Edition Volume 7 is almost upon us! I can’t wait to dive back into the world of Berserk.
