Best Anime of the 2010’s

As 2020 draws to a close, I figured it might be a good opportunity to look back on the previous ten years of anime and the success of the industry. There’s the explosion of popularity of shows like Attack on Titan and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, for breaking away from the conventional shounen mold and possibly redefining it (well aware that JoJo was originally an 80’s manga), and the rise of the isekai genre (which I’m personally not into but I can understand the appeal: It seems especially popular with young lads under the age of 25 (which is… really saddening when I think about it…)).

Kill la Kill was one of the best shows that had a stylish flair: It was like an absurd parody of the sailor magical girl genre only with the edge dialed up to 11 so it was clearly more oriented towards blokes (though I’m aware some guys watch Sailor Moon unironically. I don’t judge).

Though I admit I’m getting a bit nostalgic for even the early 2010’s. Maybe the world really ended somewhere in 2012/13 and we’ve all been living in a simulation since then.

It’s no surprise which anime i’m starting with…

In 10 years time, when a Best Anime of the 2020s will be made, Digimon will still be there 😁

        A favorite 2010s anime i’m watching is Noragami 😸

Probably Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, One Punch Man, Dr. Stone, you name it.

Best bro moment in all of JoJo:

        Just dudes being dudes.

2010 came to a wild close with Panty & Stocking: Studio Gainax’s tribute to Western animation featuring two morally reprehensible protagonists with no form of adult humor being left off the table.

~Fly away now, fly away now, fly away!~

        The Demon Sisters

“Get back here and fight like a girl!”

0:21 – Christ, Matt has terrible taste in band names. I nearly sprayed my coke over the screen when I first heard that.

There’s a reason these two got kicked out of heaven.

2016’s Dagashi Kashi kinda came and went, but at the time it stood out due its excellent visuals and quirky heroine. It’s a sweet slice-of-life anime that’s worth checking out at least once.

Hotaru is waifu for laifu. Almost feel bad for these poor lads who don’t know how to handle her.

1:16 – Coconuts, you fool! The fact that you would struggle to answer this proves you’re still a boy!

I assumed Gintama would end at some point after the first four seasons for some reason, but it stuck around and managed to stay hilarious.

Ginko was the most unexpected waifu.

I am still unsure how to feel about this.

Best fight sequences you have ever seen in an anime, too.

What made Jotaro the best JoJo: Being such a Grade-A badass he won a fight without throwing a single punch:

          Part 1

          Part 2

          Part 3

          Part 4
