As 2020 draws to a close, I figured it might be a good opportunity to look back on the previous ten years of anime and the success of the industry. There’s the explosion of popularity of shows like Attack on Titan and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, for breaking away from the conventional shounen mold and possibly redefining it (well aware that JoJo was originally an 80’s manga), and the rise of the isekai genre (which I’m personally not into but I can understand the appeal: It seems especially popular with young lads under the age of 25 (which is… really saddening when I think about it…)).
Kill la Kill was one of the best shows that had a stylish flair: It was like an absurd parody of the sailor magical girl genre only with the edge dialed up to 11 so it was clearly more oriented towards blokes (though I’m aware some guys watch Sailor Moon unironically. I don’t judge).

Though I admit I’m getting a bit nostalgic for even the early 2010’s. Maybe the world really ended somewhere in 2012/13 and we’ve all been living in a simulation since then.
