California City Becomes First in the U.S. to Ban New Gas Stations

Officials from Petaluma, California have decided their city has enough places to fill up gas-powered cars. Last week, the local city council unanimously voted to ban new gas stations, building on a two-year moratorium passed in early 2019.

    ? ? ?

The decision is directly tied to the city’s climate plan to get to zero emissions by 2030, and also points to the fact that the future of cars and trucks is electric—and that other cities need to start planning for that now.

    Fact or wishful wanting?

The ban will not only stop the city from approving any more stations within its limits, but also prevent currently-existing stations from adding more pumps. They can, however, add more infrastructure for electric cars. In fact, the legislation streamlines the process for stations to add electric vehicle chargers and potential hydrogen fuel cell stations in the future.

That is, IMO, a very BAD idea.

Now just imagine with with gas tanks nearby.

Fire stations are not prepared/able to deal with this, and the toxic fumes a battery car fire unleashes.

You cannot put it out with water.

Is this what you want happening?

My state is full of halfwhits who think they are more educated than Einstein.

This is the State that is also still in the process of building a rapid rail to LA… which multiple people have shown could be built faster and still safe.

    Stares at fire

What… is that sparks I’m seeing from the crossed charging lines? What in the world?!

No one wanted the Rail to no where.
It is nothing but a ponzi scheme that has basically been abandoned by the state leaving the contractors having been paid billions for no work having been completed.

Creating this new law is such a waste of tax payer money,  if they believe that electric cars is the future, then gas stations will organically stay low in numbers, regardless of their climate beliefs.

XD I still remember all the uproar over it when they just decided to go with it. Of course the electric is more on a city level, not a state level. This reminds me that there are also several cities that have a ban on semi-trailers parking/resting inside the city limits while they wait for their drop off points to open up. So a truck driver needs to wait somewhere outside the city limits. Way to go to make your transport economy work harder.

Eh, this’ll be interesting to watch.
