McDonald’s US president says California’s newly created fast-food council that could raise minimum wage to $22 at its restaurants ‘hurts everyone’

Joe Erlinger, the president of McDonald’s US, said California’s bill to set up a 10-person fast food council is “lopsided, hypocritical and ill-considered,” and “hurts everyone.”

    How so?

Erlinger’s criticism of California’s fast food council is that it “targets some workplaces and not others.”

    Such as?

“It imposes higher costs on one type of restaurant, while sparing another,” he said. “That’s true even if those two restaurants have the same revenues and the same number of employees.”

He went on to explain that a small business owner can be affected by the bill if they run two restaurants that are part of a national chain. But a business owner who owns 20 restaurants would not be affected if none of their restaurants belong to a national chain.

Erlinger said it’s “unexplainable” why chains with less than 100 restaurants, and some restaurants that bake bread, are excluded.

Cause it is an easy target for those Dems.

Economists and California’s Department of Finance agree the legislation is “problematic,” Erlinger wrote, because it could increase the cost of food at fast food restaurants in California by 20%, while food and other prices are already high from inflation.

But only for those the bill targets… national chains.

“Rather than asking for what many have decried as the “California Food Tax,”  those who count on a thriving restaurant industry—workers, owners and customers— should be asking lawmakers to only consider legislation that benefits all,” Erlinger wrote.

The Kommi Dems can’t do that.  They have to attack one industry (or segment) in its divide and conquer method.  Or everyone would revolt (vote out those Dems) in one clean swoop.

As for the $22USD/hr wage… at a former job of mine, working full-time for 8 years I got raises to reach that level (with close to a dozen MHE certificates/on-site training/testing and +110% quota each year of employment) and they want this as the starting wage to flip burgers/mop the floors at a McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc.

    Disgusting.

Klaus Schwab dreams about California and wakes up with a smile on his face.

At this point. they should close the business and move. Shut down 200 mcdonalds in one day would send a message. Shut down 2000 Fast Food places in one day, well that would make a very large Statement to the state, and this council.

Then, it would be doordash or Grubhub or ubereats (or some other food delivery service) using ghost kitchens where the $22 min does not apply) taken up the slack.

So you would be punishing the independent franchise owners and their staff, and the city property tax (no business, less tax revenue), etc.

And here I thought a 6 dollar burger at Carls Jr was too expensive now days, with garbage like this it will be 8, and I’ll never go again.

Don’t worry.  With the price of beef in Kommi-fornia (like bacon) will be taxed so high, the average citizen won’t be able to afford a burger.

You will be luckly if you can afford a vegan-bun instead… and be happy.
