Current TV Shows Worth Watching?

I am curious what everyone is watching these days. But with some real requirements. I get most of us watch your typical Sci-Fi, Superhero, Supernatural, Magic, etc type shows. We are geeks its what we mostly prefer. But I am not limiting things to genres or specific styles.

I want to know what is worth watching, but must follow this criteria:

    • NO SJW/Woke/Intersectional Politics/Diversity Bullshit, PERIOD.
    • Can be any kind of genre Drama/Action/Comedy/Romance/Sci-Fi/Etc..
    • Story is the Top Priority. It must have a good compelling story.
    • Characters that you end up caring about investing time into.

I know that is a tall order in today’s world. I watch a lot of the YouTube videos out there from the guys on Friday Night Tights and a lot of their usual guests or co-hosts. And it makes me curious if there is anything new left out there worth watching. My wife and I only use streaming services. And I have to be honest, at present we are watching mostly shows that predate 2000. You know when shows were about telling a good story and making you laugh or cry or get goosebumps from something exciting that happens. Or we watch home remodeling shows or documentaries if we can’t find anything worth watching.

Thanks for any and all replies.

Based on your requirements here’s what I can recommend and to no disappoint. There are other things, of course, but there is always minor wokeness here and there that I find myself capable of tolerating in modern shows, but I won’t bother trying to sell them. I tend to see TV watching as something personal, so I usually don’t talk about what I do in my private viewing time too much.

The Last Kingdom- set in the late 800’s during and after the Great Heathen Army invaded England. Fantastic show with at least one more season to go.

Poldark- starring Aidan Turner. Ended a year ago, but still recent enough. Period piece set in England post the American Revolution. 43 episodes cover a majority of the novel series faithfully. Once your done, gonna have to read the rest of the books to finish the saga. But it’s top notch TV with a great cast.

Hi @Corvus6, what streaming services are you using?

Unfortunatly it’s hard to find modern shows with zero SJW crap in them, unless you’re into anime, then you should have better luck, but i know some shows that don’t go overboard with the woke and have really good and compelling stories, at least imo

@DigiCat Currently we have the following streaming services: Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBOMax, Hulu, Netflix, PlutoTV, and then a bunch of the other free ones out there. I am considering dumping Disney+ though, the 20+ minute episode crap is really pissing me off. And I could care less about anything on Disney+ except for new Star Wars or Marvel stuff. But the SJW/Woke crap is really starting to take its toll on me. I watch something with that crap in it and I have to go watch a couple of hours of Married with Children or Archie Bunker to kick that shit out of my brain.

Currently we don’t have many choices, unfortunately. But Succession (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7660850/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) is not bad.

the only modern show Im watching is the Expanse. It really is almost as good as the books.

      #207221

I second The Expanse, it’s really good.

I did enjoy Umbrella Academy (wokeness is not very high and it’s a really smart show)

      The Witcher is also great.

I have been watching The Expanse. Not thrilled with this season though. I hear the books are good.

        Excellent post with great information

Cobra Kai is obvious choice if you haven’t seen it. It’s phenomenal

I also recommend Better Call Saul

A few shows that aren’t currently airing but are definitely worth watching are…

Son of Anarchy (one of my all time favorites shows)

Broadchurch (not an easy show to watch, but it’s really good)

“The Sinner” with Bill Pullman was surprisingly great. I hadn’t previously heard it. I just randomly started watching it one day

Let us know how these shows work out for you!

Like many of you, I enjoy The Expanse a lot – although I just wish the recent season would explore the new planets more; instead of replaying the whole Belter vs. Inner wars. I wanna know what happened to that lost alien civilization along with the mysterious villains that wiped them out. If the future seasons could explore that field more, then this show would be my favourite series of all time.

Apart from The Expanse, I highly recommend Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal.

Primal has zero SJW bollocks, zero dialogue (except for the last episode from the recent season), and has DINOSAURS + SORCERY. If you’re into dinosaurs, action, and deep storytelling using rich imagery and zero dialogue, then this show could be for you to check out.

I also loved Project Blue Book until its cancellation, as it blends both fiction and historical testimony regarding alien encounters in North America.

And I really love The Midnight Gospel by Duncan Trussell combining deep philosophical conversations with extravagant animation and gold comedy.

Yeah, i also only have Disney+ for Star Wars and Marvel shows, i’m really enjoying WandaVision, i love that each episode is set and done in the style of the different dacades, tonight is the 80s themed episode 😸

Now shows that i would recommend:

          Amazon Prime:

Little Fires Everywhere – Mini-series, one of the few things i’ve managed to binge watch in a day, really good story, would highly recommend this one if you’re into psychology and human behavior, set in the 90s, i will warn you, it does have some SJW crap in it, but it was written into the show in a way that it makes sense and not just dumped there for the sake of it

Absentia – Thriller series, season 1 was really good, season 2’s going a bit slow, haven’t watched season 3 yet, i don’t remember it being really woke, but it’s been a while since i’ve watched this

Demon Slayer – Anime, not woke, really enjoying this, only have a few episodes left

          HBOMax:

Doom Patrol and Stargirl – DC shows, very mild wokeness, doesn’t get in the way of the story in any way, like Little Fires, things that are tipicly woke are used in a way that makes sense story wise

          Netflix:

The Queen’s Gambit – Mini-series, set in the 60s, good story and acting, not 100% SJW free, if you want to nit pick

Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, and Noragami – Anime, not woke

Haven’t watched anything from Hulu yet and really want to know what PlutoTV is

Sure there’s more shows i can’t think off the top of my head right now, but i’ll keep on updating this thread when i think of other non woke, or at least not 100% woke, shows

Season 3 was okay. It was pretty much the end. I don’t think there will be a season 4.

Another really good show I forgot to mention is Mindhunter
