Descendant of donor demands law school pay back $3.6 billion after ‘woke activists’ stripped school name

A descendant of a major donor to a law school demanded that the institution pay back $3.6 billion after a decision was made to change the school name.

    As I think they should.

However, despite Williams’s estate regularly donating to the university, the T.C. Williams School of Law was stripped of its name.

    Why did the do that?

The University of Richmond School of Law voted to adopt a policy that prohibits the university from naming any building, program, professorship or entity “for a person who directly engaged in the trafficking and/or enslavement of others or openly advocated for the enslavement of people.”

    And the retroactively enforced this?

The university had found that Williams was a slave owner.

As did many wealthy 19th-century businessman, as it was the norm at the time.

In a five-page letter sent on January 30th to University of Richmond President Kevin Hallock, (Virginia lawyer Robert C. Smith is the great-great-grandson of T.C. Williams, the name behind the University of Richmond’s) T.C. Williams School of Law challenged the president to “demonstrate” their virtue by giving all the money back.

And how much has the university enriched itself by just this one family’s contributions?

“The university’s endowment is $3.3 billion. Since you and your activists went out of your way to discredit the Williams name, and since presumably the Williams family’s money is tainted, demonstrate your ‘virtue’ and give it all back.”

Correct, give ALL the money back.

It is only the right thing to do, if you hated it so much.

And what will the current descendants of T.C. Williams, Sr. do with that money?

We will use it all to fulfill the charitable purposes to which it was intended.

Giving it to worthy and just causes, and NOT to woke sh!t like this university.

The biggest grift out there right now is woke.  It’s not an ideology it is an industry.

Almost every institution, without exception, has fallen to woke and corruption. Of course, the money should be reimbursed. I feel the same way about those that did not graduate college. Refund their money. Every divinity school is now a secular hedge fund. This shows that no good deed goes unpunished. It does not give any credence to the retribution lesson. The name change thing is a bridge too far and, yes, they should refund all monies spent. The very people who benefit from it are the most resentful and the least grateful.

These people would remove Bruce Wayne from Wayne orphanage, for example.
