The Scale of things is taken to life-size, this has been one of the problems for past versions.
Costumes I have been Leary of, but after seeing this trailer wow, love them the suits are actually nice looking.
The ships (and I have seen the still pictures) look even better in live action shots

Now the actors, I have addressed in other post and I still do not like the gender swap, there is NO FUCKING reason for it, so she better make me believe she is Kynes!
The rest of the cast im ok with and even more liking ZEN as Chani, she looks right in all the book discription. But they need to make me believe the story and them

Now, this has the absolute ability to be a Mega-Blockbuster. It needed to be a IN THEATER big screen release for the scale.
DUNE is not a Normie or Geek or Nerd throw your Pronoun, Adjective whatever out the window. It is a Book, a Book Series people for over 50 years have loved an still do. My wife is a teacher and on occasions she comes home an tells me about kids talking or reading it for years as she knows my love for it.

I will not be in the least bit shocked to see this movie go 1.5billon or more (so long as it is avoids all the wokeness) Stick to the plot of the books an have great acting an this will be love by so many. I am Bias, I hold out hope for each time, this so far looks like Denny, may have one what is suppose to be impossible (adapt dune for a movie)

@Mustangride1 At this point for me it comes down to accuracy, I guess. If they can hit all the proper key plot points, leave nothing out, and get certain things right, I can probably suck it up and stomach Zendaya, I mean…I REALLY don’t like her, but there is such a thing as good out weighing bad in things. If there is enough good, it can cancel out my personal feelings on her as an actress.

That’s why I did not take a massive dump, because I can see how this movie could be good, so like many things in life, I have to actually see if it’s good before I render a decision. My biggest problem is that I’m a demanding nerd and I want this my way, ie. source material accurate :P

      Now my big questions remaining:

      1) Are they going to do the Weirding Way right? Will The Voice sound corny or be good?

      2) Will they properly hit the most important story reveals?

      3) Will characters die when they are supposed to? Or will they keep them around too long just to keep certain actors on the screen…I mean…Duncan HAS TO DIE early on. Momoa can’t be hanging around after the fall of House Atreides.

      4) Are they going to get Alia right? Or will they make the Lynch mistake and not really give her proper screen time?

These are just thoughts off the top of my head. The thing about Dune is that there are so many layers, so many points that MUST be hit if they plan on going the distance and doing the entire story. One missed plot point can ruin the entire thing going forward. That’s what worries me the most, something important changed that makes a future plot detail almost impossible to happen, which is another reason why Gender Swaps are dangerous……and I’m talking about how you make a Ghola remember their past in the latter parts of the series….you cannot have the wrong sexuality choices going on when it comes to that…that would be too much lore breaking….

And let’s be honest, there are going to be problems adapting the rest of it all things considered.

      1) The guy playing Paul…will he be able to pull off being the Preacher in Children of Dune? Can he bring a powerful enough performance down the road?

      2) What are they going to do if/when we get to God Emperor of Dune? That’s not exactly a story made for live action, if you ask me. Then again, Mamoa being Duncan might be the only thing that propels and carries a movie like that forward since he is someone people want to see. That is why I say, maybe someone had a glimmer of insight by signing him on to be Duncan since as of God Emperor a strong portrayal of Duncan is necessary. Not to mention…if we get to Chapterhouse….the sex scenes that would involve Mamoa will make the ladies swoon…and that really means they need to give us guys someone equally hot to play Murbella.

Geez…I’m really nerding out on this here.

The landscapes they did were breathtaking. Just that ship taking off from Caladan with the water spray was cool, and the ships hovering over the land. Agree with the comments on Zendaya. She was great on Dancing With the Stars but awful in Spiderman, as she came off like some homeless bum. In this movie, she doesn’t bother me because I really do think the Fremen would be darker desert people. They say they put a lot of work into her for this one. Now that they have made this, let’s hope they forge ahead and continue with the series. We NEED to see God Emperor on screen one day soon. Such bad timing. Would have been great to do a God Emperor of Dune sometime during the Trump era.

It seems to me in 2010 some pact was made within Hollywood to forego any semblance of creating entertainment so that they could make propaganda 100% of the time. I find a clear distinction between pre-2010 films and post-2010 films as it relates to the level of Woke.

With that said I have zero hope for this. However, I desperately hope I am wrong.

I heard good things about this. I think this is going to be a very decent movie. :)

        one in a million, nowadays…

          Can this be pulled off?

400-page book in 6 hours on film.

Well, Fellowship was 400 and was great.  350 for Towers and WOW. Let’s face it 400 pages for Return and that is and was great, LOTR Movies all were under 4 hours each with about the same page count in the books.

Dune we are looking to get 2 ½ hours per movie so 6 hours total. I would say they have the right amount of time down to do it right.

The Weirding way or prana-nervature and prana-bindu both I hope to see, something so far left out from all other adaptations was the “bindu” I want to see that in fights. As to the “voice”, I am curious to how they will do it, I would like to hear it in a trailer but also would like it to be a surprise in the movie. My biggest hope is to see/hear it use in many ways from a whisper to thunderous to so slight only we true fans know it is what we just heard and saw.

Hitting story points, will be interesting but as we know, leaving out the “scouring” did not affect LOTR an adding to much messed up the Hobbit, So I hope they find the proper balance. True fans will be able to debate things for sure.

But if we are to get sequels it has to be made in a way a “lay-person” will enjoy it and want more. I.E. Consume Product… want more…. Consume Product, rinse and repeat.

Alia, I really am hoping they get her right, but as of now we have no listing for the actress. I do not know how they will find a 4-year-old to pull off her. So here I think we will get some aging to maybe 7- to 9-year-old, understandable for a film and for Alai’s character.

Now as to Timothy, and him as Paul, I will admit I am concerned as he does not have the physical appearance of power, but I also have to remember Paul was base off T. E. Lawrence, yes Lawrence of Arabia. Pictures I have seen of him, are not too dissimilar to Timothy. So that said, it will be on his acting ability. But isn’t that what it always comes down to?

Now the “score” I am really interested in we haven’t really got any hints on it, and for something with the scale we have seen in the trailers, we need a score equally as big. I would love to have somehow worked in “To Tame a Land”, but that is the super fan in me. It also points to the Fandom of the Books to have a Group like Maiden make an epic saga song about it. And TOTO did the sountrack to 1984, along with Sting being in it as Feyd. You hit a Lot of fans from many genres of rock.

As to any sequels in the series, lets first worry about getting through the this first film, and then we can think and worry or speculate on what comes after, is my opinion.

Whether Alia shows up or not is fine, but it would have been cool to cast Alicia Witt as Lady Jessica since Alicia Witt played Alia in OG Dune a long time ago as a little girl. She grew up and looks great. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Alicia+Witt&t=newext&atb=v241-1&iax=images&ia=images

Alia, probably won’t be in this one, she will be born later and make her appearance then, but yes it would have been great to have Alicia be Jessica.

            Though

I do not see an actress listed for Princess Irulan, she could play her. Come to think of it neither is the Emperor (Charles Dance) Please.

DUNE Trailer 2 BREAKDOWN (Official Main Trailer 2021)

            Nerd Cookies

A new official trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated adaptation of Dune has just dropped online and with it a ton of never before seen footage and images. There is a lot to unpack in this trailer so in this video I offer my thoughts and overall impressions about what stood out to me the most. MAJOR SPOILER WARNING as I will be discussing details regarding certain scenes and where they might fit into the story of Frank Herbert’s Dune.

I have hope for this. The scale looks amazing. We really need a good sci-fi film on the big screen, because we haven’t had one in a long time.

Sisterhood has so so many things that can an in this current (PC-environment) will go wrong. I can see them Overpowering the “Bene Gesserit”. They are so powerful in many ways yet there stories are moving behind the scenes, manipulating an molding politics an bloodlines for their purpose.

I can see Hollywood showing these powers, overuse of “the voice” an certainly in the control of their bodies for the pure purpose to show WAAAMANNNN POWERRRRR….. That would be a horrible thing as they sisterhood was very secretive an mysterious, they should remain so only giving us glimpses an always wondering just how powerful they are.

World Building will be mandatory for a Prequel an I am not sure anyone in Hollywood is capable of that right now, We will have to know about all of it, at least an overview and I do not have faith anyone understands that right now.  I wish they did the two primary movies first and seen where things go from there.

                #234109

With Sisterhood, there is a lot of Mean Girls elements, there’s a rift and a breakup over thinking computers. The toxin poison pill agony to make new Reverend Mothers would be cool. Also, to hear the voices of the past mothers trying to give frantic advice and guidance would be cool. DUNE has so much story that you could go into full time production. They could do each school, with Mentats and Navigators, but the Sisterhood could be great. My favorites though are the Cymeks and the Gholas. The Gholas (clones) were really well explained in later books. There were elements of MK Ultra and past life regression in relation to traumatic experiences unique to each individual ghola clone.

The only reason I turned into a Dune geek was because of pressure. People kept telling me to read it. I didn’t like it at first. It took me at least half a dozen books and lots of Quinn videos, but once it clicked, I can see why people say DUNE is the best of all time sci-fi. It covers so many things like the destiny and fate of mankind, as well as noble bloodline Eugenics. I really think it’s a blue print for what the top tier class is actually trying to do, except in the case of DUNE, they actually wanted more population and proliferation and I don’t think the elite want that. That’s maybe the only difference.
