Similar to my previous thread on classic vintage anime, but are there any shows from 2000-09 you feel nostalgic for?

There’s quite a few which have been discussed on this forum already (such as FMA), but I’d say the cream of the crop would have to be Azumanga Daioh. It’s still a beloved gem of mine. If you missed out on this for any reason, seriously consider putting it on your “to watch” catalogue.

Plenty of other favorites I have from that particular era, including Black Lagoon, Soul Eater and of course the first four seasons of Gintama. Might go over them, later.

Black Lagoon was one of the coolest shows of the mid-2000’s. It was basically anime meets Quentin Tarantino.

It’s not just style, but also substance. It’s easy to get caught up in the levels of badassery that’s on full display, but behind these characters are broken nihilists that are looking for some way to continue justifying their existence. This series has some of the best story arcs that a seinen series has to offer, and it’s shame Rei Hiroe has never gotten around to actually finishing this story. These days he releases single graphic novel then spends the next five years drawing hentai. Someone kick his horny ass already.

Oh, yeah, and while I prefer subs in most cases, the English dub is one of the best since Cowboy Bebop. Look no further than the Japan arc as a good example:

Balalaika just makes this show, and you were never made to to forget how dangerous she truly was, no matter how otherwise amicable she could be. The arc with the vampire twins had some of her best character-defining moments, but I’d spoiling it from there.

High levels of badassery and great story arcs, this is definitely something i want to watch 😁

Hentai is art.

But, yeah, it literally means “pervert” and there’s pretty hardcore stuff out there. The human imagination is the only limit – I feel like a Vietnam war veteran that saw all his war buddies blown away.

Which is why I think anything I post here is pretty darn tame.

Black Lagoon isn’t exactly a horror series (like, say, Berserk), but it still covers some very dark subject material. Without saying too much, the arc with the twins is one of best ones, but it’s also emotionally devastating.

But it still knows how to totally kick ass.

Also remembering the brief phenomenon that was Haruhi Suzumiya, the anime that put Kyoto Animation on the map:

Baccano! was an incredibly fun anime with some intense violence and a fantastic ensemble cast of characters. Consider this right up your alley if you like a setting of 1930’s America and don’t mind a splash of alchemy mixed in. Wish this show had continued.

Trying to upload a couple clips unlisted on Bitchute to share them, but it’s bit of pain seeing as how some videos get stuck on “processing” forever.

Excalibur was easily the funniest character on the whole show:
