What are your favorite video games of the PS2 generation? In this forum, we will discuss video games that gave us long lasting memories and grand adventures that stick in our imaginations for decades. From the title screen to the end credits, let’s discuss video games from different genres on the PlayStation 2 exclusively. This means that if the game was remade on a different console (such as PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4) it can be considered but PS2 video games are preferable. To start out, I would choose Kingdom Hearts 2. The story and gameplay still hold up to this day and the characters are well developed. To me, KH2 was ahead of its time and if it was release a year later then it would have been on the PlayStation 3 console. For this forum, answer the following questions.

    1) What is your favorite video game on PS2? (Full title)

    2) Who are the characters and story about? (Both major spoilers and minor spoilers can be used here because its the PS2)

    3) What are your favorite moments of this video game?

    4) How would you remake the video game on the PS3, PS4, or PS5 to relive their memories again?

In my opinion sports and racing games were the best on PS2. All the NHL games were good. All the Madden Games were good. MLB the Show was good. NBA Live 2005 is a great game. The Tiger Woods games were amazing. Need for Speed had amazing games. Bunout had some great games. GTA San Andreas is also a classic.

Thank your for your reply, DisneySucksBalls. Yeah, there were a lot of great racing and sports games back on the PS2. I wish that these games were still good though. Before the microtransactions, sports game used to made with great quality

I agree now they suck. HUT and MUT have destroyed them. The gameplay is bad too now..

PS2 was all around solid, I would say I enjoyed JRPG’s the most on the system.

Probably my person top 10 (felt like doing top 10)  :P

My #1 Xenosaga Episode I  ( Fun [very cinematic driven scifi game, be warned sometimes you feel more like your watching a movie rather then playing a game] With KOS-MOS and Shion being my fav characters)#2 Final Fantasy X
#3 Final Fantasy XI (So much time playing this game. eventually moving to PC and 360)
          #4 Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
          #5 Resident Evil 4
          #6 Shadow of the Colossus
          #7 Shadow Hearts: Covenant
          #8 Odin Sphere
          #9 La Pucelle: Tactics
          #10 God of War

My favourite game series of all time is the Legacy of Kain games so Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2 & Legacy of Kain: Defiance are at the top for me. The story was amazing with great characters and voice acting. The combat was fun, although perhaps a little clunky especially by todays standards and the puzzle solving was the typical for its time, moving square blocks around. I’d love to see the series remade as an open world single player RPG with a similar combat system to Witcher 3 but without the wanky “travel to point x to kill/find a thing then bring it back to me at point y before inexplicably having to meet me at point z to collect a reward” side quests.

The Silent Hill game series is my second favourite so Silent Hill 2, 3, 4 and Origins. Again, great stories and characters with a creepy atmosphere. Probably the first games that I can remember where running away from enemies is a valid tactic. I think the series peaked at 3 and started to lose its way a bit after that but I still enjoyed them. I’d love to see either remakes or a continuation of the series bringing back the mist and quirky characters with ambigous motives, sorting out the awkward character control and camera angles as well as getting David Lynch involved. Also Silent Hill 4: The Room needs to be remade but with Tommy Wiseau as the main character.

I hope that you are able to at least play some of your favorite sports games on PS2 still.

Hello again, Wu BeeBee. Thank you for your reply. Kingdom Hearts was a great game on the PS2 and has been remade on PS3 and PS4 with KH 1.5 remixes. I enjoy the Kingdom Hearts series and have played every game in the franchise thus far. The only game that I would not recommend from Kingdom Hearts is the mobile game of Union Cross. I have not played Ico, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Resident Evil 4, ad Onimusha 3: Demon Siege. I have heard about Jak and Daxter and Resident Evil before though. What is Ico and Onimusha: Demon Siege about? I have never heard of these video games before.

Hello AniShikima, thank you for your reply. Yes, the PS2 was a solid console especially for JRPGs. I am a huge fan of the JRPG genre so I appreciate your list. Although I have not played all of these games, I have seen cutscenes for Shadow of the Colossus and God of War for the PlayStation 2. I also play the remake of Final Fantasy X on the PlayStation 4 known as Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. I am interested in knowing more about Xenosaga Episode 1, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Shadow Hearts: Convenat, Odin Sphere, and La Pucelle: Tactics. I have not heard of these games before. What are these video games about story wise?

Hello BigJockMcWilly, thank you for your reply. I believe that you are the first person to answer all of my questions in this forum. Well done! I have watched cutscenes of the Silent Hill franchise and have respect for this video game franchise despite never playing. I have not played or heard of Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2, or Legacy of Kain: Defiance. What is the stories within these video games about? It has just peak my curiosity.

The Legacy of Kain games are set in a sort of gothic fantasy land of Nosgoth. The Blood Omen games follow Kain, a nobleman that gets killed and is allowed to return as a vampire for revenge. At the end of the first game he is left with the choice of sacrificing himself to restore Nosgoth or to live and rule the decaying land as a vampire. The rest of the series is about him trying to find a third option.

The Soul Reaver games follow Razeal, a lieutenant of Kain that seemingly gets killed for evolving faster than Kain. He gets resurrected by the elder god as a vampiric wraith that eats souls and sets out to get revenge on Kain.

Someone actually put up the full cut scenes from all the games on youtube.

Hello Jbourdeau, thank you for your reply. I appreciate it that you like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 10. I have owned and played these games and enjoy both of them a lot. I have heard of the Yugioh anime but I have not heard of the game Duelist of the Roses. Does it follow the anime or is it a spinoff of it? I have also not heard of Dragon Quest 8 or Dark Cloud 2. I hope to check these video games out in the future. What are the stories of Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest 8 about?
