Florida or Texas

As a Canadian, I am getting increasingly more and more scared of the state of politics in my country.

And with this recent new bill to be passed in Canada called Bill C36 which is that the government now has the ability to arrest people for thought crimes like if you said something offensive on the internet 5 years ago…..you can go to jail for real for it.

As someone with Aspergers who has a hard time not accidentally offending people when I socialize with them and living in a country of the most thinned skinned people in all of the world……

……..I am seriously starting to consider to find a way to get out of Canada and moving down South to the USA to either Florida or Texas?

I hear from the American news I watch that Florida and Texas are two states in the whole USA that are the most Freedom of Speech friendly and maybe a good place for me to immigrate to get away from the insanity taking over Canada bit by bit.

I can barely sleep at night or even think about anything else in my life besides what Canada is turning into which isn’t the place my parents fled to during the Vietnam War for their own safety.

Now I worry history is repeating itself in my family and I am terrified for the future.

I have no idea what to do?

Pick a rural area rather than an Urban one, but besides that I’m not sure since I’m from the north.

First off, I am sorry to hear about Canada. I have never been there but I have always considered it a beautiful country full of good folks. It is unfortunate the government is becoming so tyrannical.

Clearly, the United States would welcome you with open arms. But I would not limit yourself to just those 2 states. They are good picks but essentially most of the states that are not on either coast can be valid choices depending on your likes and dislikes. They each will have good places and bad places within them. And as mentioned above I would make sure you move to some place rural and not urban. Personally speaking, I am from the deep south and have always been. I would not leave it for anything (except for maybe Japan but just because I have a fascination with Japan :P ). Where I am at is about an hour from an urban place so I am more rural and where I am is ultra conservative. And you will find that in a lot of states where they have a mix of both more liberal and more conservative areas and that usually runs with where the big cities are.

@Vknid It would be a big change for me to move away from Canada to the USA, living in Canada for the last 31 years of my life is like living in a small town and moving to the USA even the rural areas is like moving into a big city because there are just so many people there compared to Canada.

A small town in USA is like a city compared to a small town in Canada. I’ll need to think about this, but Canada is just getting more scary.

If you are used to and enjoy living very rural (I know Canada has a good bit of that) I think there are plenty of places in the USA to suit you. I know some of Texas can be very rural and there is a lot in the mid-west that is as well. However I am no expert on anything beyond where I live. So I would suggest to you to research but I think you can find what you are looking for. And I do indeed hope you find the solace you are seeking.

I hear Florida and Texas gets the odd hurricanes.

And Texas gets HOT – and a few brown-outs.

And the idea of not having a white Christmas… (SNOW)…  as a fellow canuck I just don’t know how that can be.

At least both of those states have NHL hockey teams (Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars).

I heard they also have some other professional sport teams.  LOL

@Legatus_Legionis Texas also has a lot of Geek friendly conventions like conventions for Transformers, Star Trek (I think Mirina Sirtis isn’t allowed in Texas after what she said about Texans)  and other stuff like that.

I heard Texas has a lot of cool geek stuff there too even though it is the land of the cowboy. Also I heard they have the biggest stakes in the entire world.

Texas is like California. Because it is so large there are just tons of things to do and see within their borders. And they also can have differing weather types between north and south borders of the state.

Florida get hurricanes probably as much or more than anyone else. Texas gets them once in awhile. I am in the deep south so I see that crap frequently. And I have NEVER seen a white Christmas LOL.

I tell be truthfully honest with everyone here I don’t want to leave Canada and move somewhere else but with how nuts the politics is in Canada are right now, my hand is getting forced more and more each day to think of leaving anyway I can to a place that is more stable and understands what it means to be a Human. To be Human is to understand and accept any and all different opinions as well as cosmetic differences of people.

I can’t live in a place that wants only cosmetic outer difference but everyone must be the same on the inside doing what is told to us. What if our society comes across a problem that requires a different way of thinking and because the government forces everyone to think only one way that our society falls apart due to a homogenous problem solving of only one solution and only one solution to solve a multitude of new different problems that could arise.

For a society to thrive there must be all kinds of different perspectives of thinking whether we agree with them all or not. Doctors tells us to be healthy and to live a long life that we must have a balance diet of different foods why can’t that same logic apply to different opinions and thoughts too for society? We Canadians want Canada to have a long and healthy existence and the only way to have that is to allow all kinds of thoughts from all kinds of people to exist not just one way.

I hate how with Bill C-10 and Bill C-36 that the current government wants to strip away all those different opinions and thoughts just so that a few people can remain in power as long as they can like bullies in a school yard wanting to remain on the top of the hill as long as they can before their time in public school ends.

I fully understand. I have never been to Canada but I always thought it was a beautiful place with a lot of nice folks. And it is truly a shame what the government is doing to it. And of course they don’t really care about any of the things they say they do it’s all about division. The same playbook is being used everywhere in the west.

There is but one actual diversity and that is the diversity of opinion. If we as humans are not open to the opinions of others (at least to hear them out) how can we ever learn anything? If there was that whole “the science is settled” BS hundreds of years ago we would still think the Earth was flat and at the center of the universe.

I get that it’s tempting to move to another country but all Western nations are basically in the same boat – America is only behind by roughly 5-10 years. Britain is being wrecked by the elites but even if I could leave I wouldn’t; running away only buys time, it won’t solve the problem. Eventually there won’t be anywhere to run to.

Most people have no idea what’s coming, I think it’s better to start involving yourself with like-minded people in small communities. You’re going to need people you can trust and rely on the days ahead.

It seems Florida is becoming the “new texas”, because most of the liberals ran away from Cali and went to Texas, and they are, slowly, fucking it up. lol

            #230367

@Hazu Forgot to mention how California seems to be ahead of the rest of Western nations, given everything I’ve heard coming out of there. It’s kinda incredible, but consider it a preview of what awaits us.

Yet normie liberals fleeing the state have no clue as to why it’s all gone to shit and will continue to vote for what caused the decline in the first place. This is why Socrates was critical of democracy: Giving every idiot who is of the age of majority the right to vote just leads to easily manipulated masses that will undermine their own communities and put tyrants in power. Unfortunately there’s no way to solve this without being accused of fascism: The current voting system works in the elites favor and they’ll fight to keep it that way and dissident party can be easily made very unpopular if they even suggested such a thing.
