For years now I’ve thought of gaming aspects that I’ve enjoyed. Parts of games that make me enjoy playing them. One game stood out with how it played, and I’m honestly surprised I haven’t seen any other titles mimic it. Planetside 2 on PC and Playstation and free to play. A multi-faction ongoing conflict spanning 3-4 regions. This game is strictly multiplayer and I believe it’s a style in its own right. Beginning the game, you have three factions to choose from. After that, there are several soldier classes and one special class. This special class can only be selected after earning the same combat points used to be able to spawn your own vehicle for open warfare. Customization is mostly behind a paywall, but luckily you can earn a currency to unlock most of the options without needing to spend money. It is a grind, and people who pay do get better weapons a lot sooner than those that don’t pay. Even the vehicles can be customized, both weapons and appearance. The same as soldiers. Each continent is a massive open world made up of many regions that are captured by control points. Some big facilities are linked to neighboring regions, giving room for detailed tactics. Once one faction takes control of most of the continent, a timer will count down. Once it concludes, the continent will go to the faction with the most territory, and give them a buff for the next continent that unlocks. It is literally never ending warfare. This makes me look to other franchises and wonder, has the game ever been noticed by other companies? Two franchises I would love to see mimic this style are Star Wars, and Halo. Sure some aspects will be tweaked, but who wouldn’t want more games like Planetside 2? You can run solo or with a huge group. A troop aircraft carrier in PS2 can carry 4-5 passengers, 3 gunners, and 1 pilot. That’s a total of 8-9 players in one vehicle. The land based troop carrier that doubles as a respawn point can carry 9 players as well, containing 6 passengers, 2 gunners, and a driver. Halo and Star Wars, if done right, could make the best game of their franchises following Planetside 2’s example! For Halo, it is like gargantuan team battle that never ends. For Star Wars, a massive Galactic Conquest/Assault that never ends. If anyone else agrees and would absolutely go nuts to play games like this, share the idea! All companies need to do is just look at Planetside 2 and come up with how to replicate that play style and even improve on it.
