Tagged: Ghost of Tsushima, Playstation
Yesterday was a great day for me. I sat down to watch the PlayStation state of play with zero anticipation for anything good.
And then it happened. at the very end of the presentation.
I saw the beautiful scenery and heard the musical notes. I knew what was coming. A new Ghost of Tsushima game, and I about came out of my seat with joy. Ghost of Tsushima to me was the best game in the past two generations of gaming. It was everything I want in a game, and well…it was all in Japan, and I love Japanese culture. A lot. Here is the trailer. It is fantastic imo.
Then I started seeing the comments and such online. I also saw this morning on G&G Daily with Jeremy and people saying it is Woke or DEI and all that simply because it is a female protagonist this time. At least Jeremy stood up and said he doesn’t think it is is Woke. Good on him for that. He is right.
Well….here is my reply to people thinking this. Baka mon!
We have had female protagonists in video games since, well, forever. I don’t see the concern here, it’s nothing new. No one complained when Jill Valentine was kicking ass and fighting off hordes of zombies or monsters 10 times her size. No one complained with Bloodrayne or Bayonetta. Jinx, Lady J, Scarlett, Baroness? What about ALL the females in Anime kicking ass? And well, STELLAR BLADE??????????? But now all the sudden people don’t think a female can kick ass because they are making assumptions this is somehow woke simply because it is a female protagonist? Do you not see the nonsense in that? Sucker Punch haven’t gone woke, they proved that with Ghost of Tsushima. They proved a lot with that game. Instead of having a childish knee jerk reaction, why not use some critical thinking. The trailer was absolutely awesome, why not start from there? I am not worried at all, and that’s saying a lot because we have been let down a LOT recently.
Here is something you can do. Go watch Blue Eyed Samurai, which has a female protagonist, and tell me that wasn’t fantastic. A fantastic animated show on Netflix that was well written. So, why can’t this game be the same then?
To be historical, 5% of Samurai were women. Yes. Look up Onna-Bugeisha, Onna-Musha, and Kunoichi. However, Samurai is a masculine term, so they weren’t necessarily called Samurai. There were still women warriors kicking ass in Japan. Sorry if that bruises your ignorance, but it is a historical FACT. The first celebrated female warrior in Japan even got her face on bank notes. So I say again, why can’t this happen in the game then?
What I also find ironic is that the new Assassins Creed game has a female protagonist (which is nothing new to that franchise) and no one was complaining about THAT, at least not much anyway, only that a black guy was there. But somehow in this case people are complaining because it’s a female? Hypocrisy much? It makes no sense to me.
I totally understand the concern for things being Woke and full of DEI pigvomit because that is being shoved into everything now, and we are all sick o fit. But in this case, I don’t see it at all.
PS: I got “Bad Gateway” THREE times trying to post this! Please, fix the forums already.
Absolutely loved blue eyed samurai. Not a fan of these subversive elements in this industry. I don’t think people realize how toxic they are for the medium. Gaming has suffered and deteriorated.
I don’t have a problem with a female lead character. I do take issue with a massive studio staffing people time and again who do not bring hard work and talent towards the goal of making quality games. Why do they do this? Why do they make people the face of their game who hates the audience?
I’m sick and tired of these assholes mocking us.
Maybe I’m wrong though, maybe the game is quality and aside from the lead role everyone else on the team is respectful and wanting to make a quality product that isn’t subversive messaging. But right out of the gate, this is not a good sign IMO, it’s a slap in the face right out of the gate.
I’m not afraid to admit when I am wrong. So, I’ll say, some things that have come out in the past week about this game now have me, concerned.
There was a picture floating around of some of the Sucker Punch dev staff for Ghost of Yotei and it was ALL females and blue hair, etc. I can’t find the pic, but lets just say my spidey sense was tingling when I saw it.
