James Gunn Writing Superman Movie – Cavill Out as Superman

The project will focus on the younger years of the hero, and thus he will be played by a new actor rather than Superman veteran Henry Cavill.

Gunn and his DC Studios co-chair and co-CEO Peter Safran recently met with Cavill to share the news, and to discuss ideas for potentially collaborating in the future on something else, perhaps a different role.

At this stage, Gunn is merely writing the script, though he could potentially direct depending on where his services are needed at DC Studios, according to insiders.

    Tis a sad day.

I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone.  I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.  After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.  The changing of the guard is something that happens.  I respect that.  James and Peter have universe to build.  I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.

For those who have been by my side through the years…..we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around.  Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!  My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.  It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.

“I realise that DC has made a decision but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’m inclined to ignore it”- re-arranged from ‘Avengers Assemble’.

Although to be fair on DC I can understand why they’d have to do it if they’re wanting to reboot it. As long as they don’t go the root Marvel has done and make everything a comedy (which has put me off Marvel of late besides the woke bs). I’m not saying everything has to be dark and serious but not everything has to be a comedy either.

FINALLY!  Now Superman can truly be an icon of representation and be played by a disabled pregnant trans-man of color.  This will show all the disabled pregnant trans-men of color they can be super!  After all, that’s the REAL American dream, right?

      I had a thought.

What if, this new direction, is a Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes centric DC films.

Technically it IS an early version of Superman, and since GUNN loves doing all those SPACE scenes, that just might be what we will get in the future.

Legion of Super-Heroes, the Legionaries….  if you ever wanted instant diversity (why still using the source material), that would be the way to go.

Sadly, that is not what I want.

Boy oh boy would a hard R-Rated LOBO fit in that more space/other-world theme.

I want my Big Blue Boy Scout Superman to be for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

OH how I am finding I am treasuring the Superman The Movie all the more.

I am cautiously optimistic about all the new DC under James Gunn. I like his Guardians movies. But, my concern is that it will be too comedic and not the more serious tone I would prefer. I am a small fan of the Synderverse, for the most part. I don’t like Aquaman much and WW2 was garbage.

As I have only seen the YT shorts created by Astartes.

There’s “Helreach”, a 2 1/2 hour animated movie on YouTube as well if you want to check out the 40k universe. I think it is largely based on the audiobook of the same name with animation. It can also be found in 13 separate parts of varying length. Also “The Last Church” but that is a bit more specialised, being set about 10,000 years earlier and works best if you’re already at least mildly familiar with the 40k universe.
