I Have Very Bad News About the Justice League

They’ve lost fights. They’ve dissolved the team. They’ve had individual members die, they’ve been wiped out of existence, and they’ve been rebooted and forced to start over from scratch. But the Justice League has never faced a problem exactly like this before, and they’re not going to get a second chance to solve it.

    What is that?

DC Comics has revealed that Justice League #75 will feature the team… well, dying. Like, almost all of them.

    Again?

“We’re going to see things get darkest before the dawn. The Justice League gets called in to fight this Dark Army that’s been building on the edge of the multiverse. They go up against this Dark Army and they lose.”

What?  Another Darksied or Dark Metal level events.  Boring, same old same old.

Of the superheroes who go to fight the Dark Army—Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, John Stewart/Green Lantern, Zatanna, Aquaman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Hawkgirl, and Martian Manhunter—only one will survive to give humanity the bad news. And that will be the final issue of Justice League (for the foreseeable future, at least).

5G.  That is what this is.  The 5G everyone hated.

So does this mean the end of their regular monthly titles too?

    Or just the “main” characters.

A Superman in Action comics that is NOT Superman/Clark Kent?  Oh yay, we have that “Son of Kal-El” super-flop.

An Aquaman that is not Arthur Curry?  Oh yay, they has an Aqua-replacement there too!

Wonder Woman?  They got her replacement as well.

Green Lantern?  It has always been a CORP, so having another as the title character is not the problem, it is the WHOM that is.

Flash?  Same as GL.  Multiple characters have held the title.

Batman?  With Bruce Wayne dead, that makes the Next Batman (Foxx) the only Batman?  Are they gonna destroy the Bat-Family titles as well?

This destruction of the DC IP’s many long time fans hoped was averted.  It seems it was only delayed.

    So when will this happen?

It’ll go on sale April 19.

I think one reason manga is becoming so popular is that there are so many different kinds of stories. The major comics in the US just seem to be repackaging the same ideas over and over.

How many Infinite Crises or New 52s can they come up with before people get bored with such big events? How often can major characters appear to be dead but some back because plot before readers realize the stakes really aren’t that big after all?

And at least in manga, the stories end. True, they may go for long, long, long time (looking at you, One Piece), but even with One Piece, there is a sense of progress, even if it does sometimes feel glacial.

And US comics? Batman and Catwoman are finally tying the knot! Oh, wait, never mind. That would be progress in the story, and we can’t have that, can we?

Worst of all, US comics are woke. If there is change, it’s that the heroes are becoming either representations or supportive of representations.

    So, why bother?

I have dropped many titles from my account because of this woke/sjw BS.

Alot of us long-term comic collectors where looking to exit if/when 5G came out.

We want stories of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

We want stories of Clark Kent/Superman.

If they end, so too is me buying those comics.

Sure, we are hearing about copyright/public domain concerns of those IPs.

So this rush to replace them is alienating your fan base.

I have no problems reading the various people who have been The Flash, nor the Green Lantern.

But to me, there is has been only ONE Superman and ONE Batman (OK, except for those few issues when Nightwing became Batman, but that was a natural progression of the character.)

PS: I did not like the Azreal/Batman story arc, BTW.

For the last decade, I have been purchasing back issues at a greater volume that buying new issues.

The audience these publishers are looking at, are NOT paying customers.

Those who ARE the paying consumers, they have been attacking …. “If you don’t like my politics, don’t buy my books.  problem solved” = why are comic sales tanking?

Why are the consumers we are pushing away from comics not being replaced by a demographics that don’t care for comic books?

Well, at least I will have TONs of great stories (and some not so great) from the 80’s and 90’s I can read/reread.

    EVS has his take on this;

I spoke with the owner of my local comic books store.

They got the news the same as us, via that announcement.

They have not been given anything else to help answer questions from the consumers/customers.

They have no idea if it will effect the regular monthly titles.

They have no idea if there will be special advertisements, or cross-over/tie-ins.

They have no idea how many issues to order (as it has not yet been but onto their current order forms.)

If anything, I would have expected something like this when it came to the mega-event of “year of the villain/dark metal”, but public reaction to 5G was not there.  And it is still not there.

This is a disaster in the making, IMO.

I’ve had to stop getting comics- especially Marvel- because of how woke they’ve become. If I do get any, I have to make sure that they’re NOT woke. The last recent comics I got were the ‘Loki’ and ‘Magneto’ solo series and ‘Greyson’ from 2015. I’ve not got anything more recent from Marvel of DC since. If I do get anything, It’s older storylines such as ‘Injustice’ and ‘Batman: Under the Red Hood’ which I got a couple of years ago.

Man, eff this. Justice League has been one of my go-tos at DC since I got into comics (yes, even the Bendis issues)

First they tease me with a JSA re-launch that never happens and now this?

And it double sucks, bc I really like Joshua Williamson. His work at DC has been great (Seriously, check out his Flash run, if you haven’t already)

Future State (aka 5G that we were told wasn’t happening) is upon us

I’m a DC guy. There is some Marvel stuff I like but I never got as into Marvel’s deep cuts as much as I have DC’s. DC is the most frustrating company to follow. Every once in a while, they will get it right, get some momentum and then completely screw it all up. Now, they are just burning it all the ground. In my opinion, DC died with the launch of the New 52 and its just been a shambling corpse since. I guess I always felt as though there was a small glimmer of hope that it could be resurrected.

In the novel Crime and Punishment, the main character has a dream about a man beating a horse to death in a village. The main character is a boy standing with his father in the dream and the man beats the horse to death right in the street. The main character cries and begs for someone to stop him but everyone just stands there and watches. Some cheer the man on, others demand he stop. But no one does anything. No one stops the man. I tend to think about that chapter when it comes to DC.
