That is exactly why they shouldn’t be implemented!

“Likes” make it way too easy to create a petty and hostile environment. Be a man and tell someone that you don’t like them.

These forums remind me of the old GameTalk forums.

Maybe a thank you button instead? I do understand everyone’s thoughts. Likes and post counts may make things more competitive and you would have “clout” chasers. But it does increase activity on some level. That’s why you have moderators to handle members like that though

Hello lavosslayer, thank you for your reply. This is a good alternative solution to the like and/or dislike buttons. A point system that we already have for approved comments can be added here for positive and negative comments. Good post.

Hello Ambistyr, thank you for your reply. How do these forums remind you of the old GameTalk forums? Can you please explain?

Hello DJSkandalous, thank you for your reply. I think a thank you button would be similar to an approval comment in the my points section of a member’s account but is public on forums so it could work. However, I still want to avoid the like and dislike button because the conservatories that occur on Twitter and Facebook. Nevertheless, I also see your reasoning for why it could increase activity in the forums. I also do not want to create a lot of work for the moderators either.

I’m with those erring on the side of caution.

Feedback can be nice, knowing that loads of people silently agree with you (or making you realize you’ve been acting like a tool). But such a system can be easily abused, and it’s part of the reason why sites like Twitter became cancerous. People get dopamine hits from positive feedback, and it turns social media into a drug as people compete to say some of the most ridiculous nonsense to keep getting those likes. As it is right now, forums like this one are reminiscent of the good old days of what the Internet used to be like.

Yes, indeed it does. It’s pretty good and so far seems just as great as the GameTalk forums used to be.

Oh no, it’s absolutely fine and I appreciate you creating this topic because it does give us some sort of insight as to what everyone would like. I personally like the idea of some sort of “like” function, but also understand that it could easily end up being a clout chasing circle jerk as well.

It’s okay and we appreciate it! We’re going to be constantly trying to implement more features as we go, especially with everyone’s feedback rolling in.

I never participated on any forum with any sort of like/dislike button. I don’t see the need. Eventually you will come to learn certain posters and how to take their posts.

On other social media I think the like button is a double edged sword. It brings engagement and feedback but leads to dopamine hits and can be addictive. Human psychology really isn’t built for this. People chasing likes on social media have lead to a lot of craziness.

          no like/dislike buttons please.

people just try to farm likes, or mass downvote, keep that crap off this forums if at all possible.

Thank you for your reply and the consideration of the idea of a “like” function of sorts. I appreciate it.

Hello DarkeWolf, thank you for your reply. I never thought about a forum poll. This could be an interesting alternative to the like/dislike button This is much appreciated. The only way that I can see it being implemented is within a particular comment where the date, time, and reply functions have a poll function next to reply. How would you implement the forum poll system in the forums?

Hello RikaxNipah, thank you for your reply. I agree with you that I enjoy the forums because there are no like and dislike buttons.
