Matrix on a budget

My honest opinion about this new matrix movie. It feels like it was done on a Netflix budget. The ideas could have worked if only they would have casted better actors. The world they build is gone. Io is made up of 9 people and some robots. We never see any other sign of life whatsoever. They couldn’t pay extras??? IDK.

I Honestly went in thinking Jessica Henwick was going to be the worst part about this movie and it turned out that she is the only one that had any type of charisma or acting chops. All the veteran actors did their job but it wasn’t enough to cover up the amateurish new cast. All in all the ideas were not bad but they were executed horribly.

I couldn’t wait till the fights were over. Something that I never felt before even on matrix 2 and 3. There is a part that is confusing me to the ends of the earth and that is the meta references. Which kind of leads me to the other part of the movie.

On the one hand feels like it was done on purpose in a way to make fun of woke stuff but also in away that would be celebrated by woke people but also anticipating how reviewers would receive yet another sequel movie. There is a craft to it that makes you wonder if that was the plan from the beginning. However you also have to consider if they saw a rough edit cut, thought it was not salvageable and added those things in anticipation of the backlash. Specially the Merovingian lines, so for me is either of the two or both.

I Really thought that maybe just maybe they gambled by make the first part of the movie as cringe as possible on purpose to distinguish from the real world. The real world felt a bit more like the matrix for a little bit. Of course that totally falls apart once they enter the new human city that lacks just that. Humans. They had no population, even Disney channel kid movies have a larger world building. So yikes.

The esthetics just did not match the original movies. Again thought maybe it would have been a gamble but nope.

Not sure why they didn’t use Fishburne? Hell I don’t know why they didn’t take their time getting charismatic actors for the roles. They didn’t need to get hot high paying ones but there are many new up and coming actors that would have fitted better in this movie. In fact they had Cristina Ricci and they used her on a throw away role.

I’m calling this matrix on a budget.
