One of my favorite anime/manga series ever!! Let’s have some Naruto discussions here! I guess the first topic in this Naruto forum will be… favorite Naruto/Naruto Shippuden arc!

For me I think it would have to be the Pain saga…. [SPOILER for an anime that’s been out for a while] Naruto having to confront the man who killed his sensei/godfather had so much drama to it, and I loved how the arc took the time to set up for the next part of the series with Minato warning Naruto about ‘the guy with the mask’. Pain was probably the best villain in Naruto… since he challenge Naruto both as a fighter and mentally.

ingest emotional moments for themselves they always have to beat you over the head with countless flashbacks. i cant tell you how sick i was of the seeing the same flashbacks, dozens of times, it even taking up entire episodes, i saw a meme that said the swing from narutos childhood flashbacks has more screen time than tenten, its funny because its true, like think how much time they spent on replaying flashbacks, that they could have spent building and utilizing other characters, how many cool characters were completely neglected in shippuden, rock lee, neji, shino, hinata, its sad…

my favorite arch is the hidan/ kakuzu arch, its the only arch where naruto isnt involved almost at all and shikamaru gets to shine once again like the part 1 days, my other favorite arch is the pain arch, because it was the first time narutos ideals were challenged, for once he didnt have the answers and he realized the world isnt so black and white, naruto matures in this fight, every villan befor and after this naruto steamrolls through with his “superior ideals” or whatever, i dont like how it ends though, pain is a hard core villan dead set in his path to pe  i love naruto its like my 2nd favorite anime, but i just finished rewatching the entire show from the beginning, and i realized alot of issues with the show i feel like mk has a pretentious way of storytelling, the show thinks its deeper than it actually is, this show invinted overstorytelling they never let meaningful moments breath they never let the audienceace and he ask naruto how he would achieve peace and naruto basically said “i dont know but im a gutsy ninja” and nagato just changed to a good guy, puts all his faith in naruto, and kills himself to bring back the hundreds he murdered, i mean he was 2 second away from giving naruto a bj. anyway i love the show but i hate the naruto character, everyone bends to his will no mater what, he was handed all his power cuz of the 9 tails, he has more plot armor than ive ever seen in my life, he never lost a fight, if kid naruto was gonna fight madara, the akatsuki, and the 5 kage all at once, i would put my money on kid naruto because his infinite plot armor is the strongest weapon in anime.

i did like naruto in part 1 because he was the underdog, and they gave more attention to other characters. i remember narutos fight with neji, were they had their battle of ideals, neji believed destiny is set in stone and cant be changed, naruto believes, your not bound to destiny, and you can choose your path, and he proves this by being a failure that was able to beat a prodigy like neji, so the show goes forward and naruto continues to complain about how much of an underdog he was, fast forward to the war arch and we find out naruto is LITERALLY the reincarnation of ninja jesus. so naruto beating neji back then only proves that destiny is set in stone and does beat hard work. i find that funny. my favorite characters are kisame, kabuto, might guy, obito, kakashi, madara, gara, they all have sadening stories but their flashbacks argent over used actually most of them we only see once which is better and more impactful, all there stories are about imperfect people in a cold shinobi world.

sasuke has a weird relationship with naruto, like the dude left the village on his own, and all naruto and sakura does is ride his dick 100% of the time i hate it, but he wasnt declared a rouge ninja because everyone in the plot bends to narutos will regardless of logic. sasuke tried to kill sakura like 3 times and he still sucks hid dick, i thin he should have killed her, have naruto experience the deepest loss in his life, and him finally understanding sasuke isnt the boy he once knew, and them developing a true hatred, and then in the war arch them working together and being needing to lean on each others strength would be so much more inpactful, but that cant happen because naruto hase to be perfect 100% of the time because hes jesus…..the end

I agree with Naruto having issues with pacing when it comes to flashbacks (even though I love the series, I will never deny it’s flaws) but I also feel that the facing of flashbacks are handled better in the manga (mostly… not so much in the war arc… but Tobi… there really was no avoiding it)… that said, I would love to see Naruto get the DBZ Kai treatment in the since that they touch up the animation for modern HD, take out the filler, and make the dub scrips closer to the manga dialouge if possible… but as it now I still have fun watching the Naruto anime. Also I get Kishimoto was trying to make Naruto and Sasuke special with the Ashura and Indra thing… but wasn’t that the whole reason why Naruto and Sasuke was a jinchuriki/Uchiha respectively… they were already special… again I love the series but I won’t blindly excuse the flaws either.

Some really good replies here, I think my favourite arc would have to be the Five Kage Summit. It was awesome seeing all of the Kage together in one place, then Sasuke crashes the summit along with Taka, we see all these high level abilities, Danzo uses Izanagi, Obito declares war, and the entire arc keeps throwing some curve balls at you.

The only filler I liked in Shippuden was the Crystal Ice User arc, or as I like to call it, the Crystal Meth arc.

I agree that Kishimoto made a lot of mistakes, but it’s bound to happen writing the same show for 15 years.

        I’m considering starting Naruto. :3

I’d still recommend Part I, even after all these years (minus all the filler arcs after episode 135. I skipped all of that). It still ranks quite highly as a solid shounen series.

Part II… sometimes hits the mark, and sometimes it doesn’t. If you ask me it doesn’t hold up anywhere near as well and starts to completely fall apart towards the end. But if you enjoy Part I, you might get something out of it.

I think if you want to consume Naruto, definitely read the manga to avoid filler. Part 1 of Naruto was actually really fucking solid and still has one of the best tournament arcs in any fiction. Shippuden… started pretty good, but went downhill pretty fast. After Pain it just became a mess imo

You’re like me when it comes to Dragon Ball so I’d imagine you’ll be the same with Naruto as well. There are a lot of great and interesting characters to latch onto, none of which are the titular one lol. Naruto certainly grows through the series, but it only ever feels like incremental improvements up until nearly the very end. Goku and Naruto share a lot of personality (and IQ) traits, but Goku, while a fool, is a good-natured one. Naruto is just a fool.
