Queen Elizabeth, Canada’s head of state, dead at 96

Queen Elizabeth, Canada’s head of state and the longest-reigning British monarch, has died.

She died on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Buckingham Palace said in a short statement. She was 96.

    Its a sad day.

Elizabeth became Queen in 1952, at the relatively tender age of 25, and presided over the country and the Commonwealth, including Canada, for seven decades. Those 70 years as monarch were recognized during this year’s Platinum Jubilee events, which reached their height in London in early June.

    A long reign it was.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the palace said, in reference to the Queen’s son Charles, who automatically became king upon her death, and his wife, Camilla.

A new chapter in the British Royals is now here.

A lifelong devotion to duty coupled with an ability to conceal her political and worldly views are but two characteristics that made her a much loved public figure.

It’s sad, the world has lost a strong, remarkable woman.

Current pretenders would do well to follow her example.

    RIP.

Was shocked to hear this myself last night. Thought YouTube was having a cruel laugh at me at first and I had to check other YouTube channels who I know to be far more reliable than our media (especially the BBC). Then I spent the rest of the night depressed. Not King Charles’ (it’s weird for me calling him that after spending so many years calling him Prince Charles) biggest fan but I hope he does well. His mother is going to be hard to beat. Hopefully Harry and MeGain are NOT invited to the funeral (MeGain especially). No-one wants those two here atm.

This would’ve been a good place to end the monarchy as it is just a relic of the past with an insane amount of blood on its hands from the colonies, and Elizabeth resisted decolonization at the time. Just the funerals are predicted to cost around a billion pounds and the thought to have a royal family to just live in luxury is a remnant from the past.

If conquering/colonizing is blood on the hands then EVERY society ever has blood on its hands.

Unfortunately, Elizabeth was the last sane one of this brood.  Everyone else, including Charles, is batsh!t crazy.

@DragonLady not a fan of “King Charles III” either.  His personal relationships have threatened to bring down the Monarchy more than once. Also, he’s more outspoken than his mother (e.g. with his pro “Green” stance”). He’s bound to ruffle some feathers with his style of leadership.

I think most royalists are willing to give him a chance though. And yes, keep the Sussexes far away from the funeral.

As a matter of fact, among his first duties the King should strip spoiled crybaby Harry and his obnoxious wife of  their titles. That would probably raise his standing in a lot of people’s eyes.

This was a lady who has seen more in her lifetime than any of us commenting here, she was beloved not just by her country but many around the planet. Her Life has been looked at from many points of view. If I knew nothing more about her than her love for her Husband that would be enough to know she was a good Lady.  May she run the grounds of Balmoral in Heaven with him again.

        @Maverick

I’m sure I can remember reading somewhere that that’s what King Charles is considering doing with Harry and Megan when he gets the throne. Mostly for the sake of Harry and Megan’s kids because knowing Megan she’ll use them for her own gain. In fact, most of us want Charles to do that.

Charles is nothing like Queen Elizabeth.  He is a gross human being and I am sure will do nothing but terrible stuff to the UK.  I am old enough to clearly remember all the shenanigans going on with him when Princess Diana was still around.

Who cares what that gold-digger feels.

She alienated her immediate family (father, sister), she alienated her son-in-laws/father-in-law/etc.

And with King Charles III having proclaimed in wants a more streamlined royal family, I can see him cutting down the line of succession and titles.

ie. If you are NOT a working ROYAL, you are excluded from being in the line of succession.

The Line of succession is clear.

            Charles ( Now King )
William (Next King ) and the sooner the better
George (Long after most of us are gone) Just hope he is more like his Parents and Grandmother.

Really they need to remove Harry and Digger from all Royal titles and inheritance and any funds from the Royal family or Britain. They made that bed, they can lay with the flees.

Was never a fan of Prince Harry to begin with. I thought it looked like he was trying to mature a bit after William married Kate and after their son was born. Then Harry married Megan and he threw it all out the window. I’m pretty sure even the Prince Harry from his collage days would’ve been mortified at his current behaviour.

When I saw that photo of  the Queen greeting Liz Truss she looked so frail.

If you look at pictures taken of her within the last 24 months you’ll notice that she deteriorated quickly after Prince Phillip’s death. He was her partner and counsel and she lost that pillar of support when he died.

To those politicians that were partying during the Pandemic (while Her Majesty sat alone at her husband’s funeral),  “forgetful” Prince Andrew and those perpetual privileged victims Harry and Meghan – there’s a special place in hell reserved for all of you.
